FINALLY it's here..good and bad

Post by indiana lurch »

Well for those of you who don't know my story, I ordered a HH LC Wested jacket with the V stitch on the side straps. Brief review

Ordered mid August..no emails
I emailed (repeatedly) to verify order..confirmed in Sept
Shipped Oct 5thish
Lost by ParcelForce
New jacket had to be made
Recieved Dec 4th...by regular mail with a $110 tax/tariff

It's my first jacket...so I"m happy it's here but I"m concerned about a few things. No V stitch, can't tell if it's a bit short (I'll ask you guys to let me know...and I"m not sure if it's a LC jacket or a Rotla or Indy4 jacket and since I don't know my leathers I'm hoping it's HH

The length looks about right for a LC jacket, since the jacket in that one seemed to end near the top/middle of Ford's posterior... Yes, a strange way of judging the length, I know... but if it works... ;)

Image

The pockets are a bit oversized for my tastes, and I believe those are the Wested's standard LC pockets pattern? I'm not a big fan of them, for aesthetic reasons, and also because though I might be wrong, I doubt we ever see any pockets that big on screen.

Personally though, I would have gone for smaller pockets, and bumped them up higher from the bottom of the jacket than they are now.

Your collar looks like the Crystal-Skull prototype: very, very pointed as opposed to any of the other patterns. Just like the one on mine! ;)

I like how the armholes look. Is it an 80's fit? Looks rather fitting, which is always a good thing, though I might be wrong. As for the buckles, considering that they're rectangular sliders, I suppose that makes it more of a hybrid jacket than anything, since they allude to Raiders.

I know I'm probably being very straightforward, but I don't mean to be harsh. I'm just prepping you for your next jacket order, which like it or not, but you'll be finding yourself placing soon! :P

It certainly looks like it fits you very well, which is something everyone wishes they had for their first Wested! ;) What you've got there is an excellent looking jacket, though it isn't particularly accurate to any one particular movie. Your jacket is like something a REAL Indiana Jones would have picked up from all his movies... Let's see: you have your LC overall fit and press studs, your Raiders sidestraps, your Crystal Skull collar, and last but not least, your Temple panache! Way to go! :)

Psst, let me know if you need some pointers for your next Wested! ;)

I'm pretty sure that's the HH, although that is the grainiest sample of the hide I have seen (not a bad thing). Hard to tell the fit from the mirror shots...maybe have the wife take a coupls of shots? Looks to be petty good from what you did show. Congrats on the new jacket...

Well if it can stand up on its own then it is horsehide  . Seriously.
Congratulations on your first jacket. Looks good as far as I can tell. I really like the shape of those pockets.
Aeris_Canon wrote:It's a Last Crusade; could be horse but looks a lot like goat (which is impossible since Wested stopped using goat) so it must be HH.

That's exactly what I thought too. Those close up shots look exactly like my Wested goatskin.

lurch,

looks like you got the best of all 3 movies in the design. congrats on receiving it.

she looks like she fits nice but can't really tell from a partial shot though. i wouldn't be able to tell if it's horsehide or not but it does resemble the recent purchases on the board.

what design were you going for originally? she looks like a greaty hybrid to me. :D

Nice jacket! Looks great, can't wait to see it after a little more wear.

but $110 in taxes?? What a joke! That's 1/3 the price! Has anyone got away around this? I know a couple harmonized codes that sometimes work, but nothing for sure...

That grain looks a lot like the hh I have.

The collar is CS which is a good thing cos it's much better than the old LC pattern.

Can you give us a close up of the seam where the arms join the body? That way we can tell if they put in the CS detailed double stitch.

Body and arm length look good to me, I agree with AC, your belt line is slightly low for SA, wearing Indy pants the belt should probably sit a little higher... but it looks ok as it is.

Length of the body looks good; if the sleeves are long enough and don't ride up too much then you should be set - all in all a fine looking jacket. It will get more character the more you wear it (which you will be able to do living in Canada, as opposed to me in Florida - don't let me get started about that again...)
Congrats and enjoy!

Meooooow,,,, I mean nice lookin jacket, yea we deffently need a pic of you standing with some distance so we can get a better idea of over all fit. But I'd say thats a nice looking jacket, wear it in good health. And ya know, you can always start now buttering up the misses about your next jacket, maybe the goats will have grown enough and you can get a Wested goat.

Nice looking jacket! It wrinkles the same way my jacket does so it should be a HH and I would call it an LC jacket.
Glad to see you finally got it! :D

Hey Lurch congrats on the jacket! I Love all that grain, you can tell it's really going to get better as it ages because of it. You'll definately have to post pictures in the future after a bit of wear so we can see how it's coming along. btw, those look like black "D" rings are we sure they are rectangular sliders? Cool jacket!

Yup...welcome to Canada! Funny how Canada Customs just picks a number out of the air though. I paid $89 for one Wested and $97 for another!

Nice jacket, Lurch. Can you post a straight-on photo of you raising your arm at a right angle, jacket zipped? I'd like to see the cut.

Many thanks,

I think the jacket looks around an inch shorter in this photo than it is beacuse in this scene, the wind is blowing it up and against the curve of HF's spine. That's the curse of taking any one photo to "establish" a look.

Nice jacket. But why can't Peter get the pockets to look like the LC movie pockets!! We really shoudl help Peter establish a size and shape to help him along with this.

I think it looks awesome. Length, sleeves, color, texture...

And it's the real deal! :D After my current leather jacket starts to fall apart, I plan on getting a nice, generic Wested "Raiders" that fits well. There are so many discrepancies it seems with all the jackets that I am not going to even try to get TOO close to any specific detail. I am by no means an expert on the jacket, (yet), but I myself would be really psyched with that one!

That IS some grainy horsehide. The LC jacket that I ordered back in 2005 (when Wested first began to offer HH) is glass smooth, with a very fine grain, and practically no pebbling at all. I am insanely jealous of your (now standard) screen-accurate collar configuration, which I specifically requested in my e-mail order (with attached reference photos). It didn't happen, much to my disappointment, but still a fantastic leather jacket. Enjoy! :D

Ok, first off someone asked for a pic of the jacket done up 1/2 half way and the arms out, that's one of the pics. the rest are of the jacket after a month of Niagara Falls winter and one trip to Georgia and Florida.

If you would like any other pics just let me know

So far the jacket is great, I love it and it works except when my chef coat is longer and it sticks out the bottom, but really I don't care. I haven't babied it at all and I can't wait til I get a better hat to go with it.

BTW, off topic I was at a Cracker Barrel while on vacation and they were selling the cheap indy hat with pin (which is what I have) and it's actually got worse the stitched a rim around the brim

The collar looks more CS (pointy) than LC (rounder), but regardless, Peter got the collar configuration right. Looks good.

Yeah, what the guy in the ape suit said... My Wested LC collar is much more rounded.

My Wested HH Raiders jacket was super smooth when it was brand new, so smooth it almost looked like vinyl, or at least like it had been pressed smooth. But after a few months of wear, the grain really started to stand out. It still isn't near as wrinkly as one of my old goatskin jackets, though.
So how long until the color starts to naturally fade or wear? It's still all a flat, dull, dark brown, and I do not want to take sandpaper to it, artificial distressing is not my thing. Also, will moisture bring out more wrinkles in the leather? I'd like the color to fade a little, but I don't want the jacket all wrinkled.

In my experience, water definetly helps it wrinkle some. After I got caught in a downpour, my vegetable tanned lambskin acquired ToD-accurate wrinkly sleeves... And with my chrome tanned lamb, after I got drenched on a water ride, the front and back of the jacket (as well as the collar) developed wrinkles, and looks rather beat-up now.

Hello folks. I'm back after a little break from indy stuff ;)

After seeing indiana lurch's horsehide jacket. I'm now believing that my last Wested jacket is a HH too. I thought it's a cow because of the heavy grain. I'm gonna make some pics today or tomorrow.

I did the water treatment on my 3 yr old lamb Wested that still looked fairly new - used alchohol to get rid of the shine then got caught in a soaking rain - you can check pics on this thread on how it turned out -
http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?t=25113
Incidentally, after the two above mentioned treatments my jacket began to show distressing very quickly - I used to treat the jacket religiously with lexol and pecards but let it be this year, and after the alcohol and water and some adventures that saw my jacket get a real beating it has qucikly turned into a jacket that looks the part of a worn adventure jacket...
