What's the thickest hide they offer now? The Horse?

I can't say for sure but I have a sample of the horsehide and it doesn't 'feel' as thick to the touch as my cowhide does.

I believe the cowhide is the thickest hide that Wested uses.

Thanks guys. I'm getting ready to get another wested and I noticed they don't make the goat anymore.

Does anyone know how the cow and horse compare to the goat? (Aside from the fact that one can run faster than the others.)

The horse is slightly thinner than the cow but feels tougher.

Comparing the 2 to the goat... the goat was similar to the horse in thickness but had a slightly weird rubbery feel when it was worn in, not bad but slightly weird.

I just sold a cowhide jacket because I couldn't get on with the stiffness and weight, it was also a mite big for me. The horsehide whist quite heavy has a very nice drape.

If you want a tougher heavier leather, I really like the horsehide for weight and drape.

You can't go wrong with the HH. It's even better after you break it in....

Wested doesn't offer the horsehide predistressed do they? I was thinking about getting a cowhide but from you what you guys are saying, horsehide looks like the way to go

No you can't get it pre-distressed. If you like that look of the Novapelle or pre-D cow, stick with that. The HH is much darker and has an even finish, but it gets a lot of character as you wear it.....wrinkles and grain start popping out all over, plus its water resistant and tough as nails.

Speaking of which, does anybody know if Wested's novepelle is pre-distressed, or just an easily distressable hide (like their veg-tanned hide)?

Looks like this, less "cracked" than the usual predistressed leather. But it also seems to weather fairly well on it's own too.

Thanks KT! That jacket certainly straddles the line between being predistressed and costumey, and comes out all the better for it! However, I am curious though if this jacket is more expensive than the 'standard' hides (that is to say, pretty much anything other than HH and veg-tanned)? I was charged almost 400 US for my order, and I'm wondering if this is the exchange rates at work, or if this hide is just that expensive?

Might be a little of everything especially if you ordered custom. I do know the exchange right now is TERRIBLE. I bought my 2nd Aero not too long ago and I got robbed big time with the rate. Like if I would have bought this one 3 years ago I would have paid about 40% less. That Novapelle is a nice hide though, I like it better than the pre-D cow.
