Adventurebilt in-person?

Post by whipwarrior »

Has anybody ever paid Steve a visit at his Adventurebilt studio in-person? The reason I ask is that I would like to pick up a new fedora next year, and I only live two states away. I thought it might be cool to see the official operation, chat about gear with the man of the hour, and maybe have a whipcracking session. Good idea?

I came very close a few years ago as I was visiting someone who used to be stationed at the Air Force base down there. Unfortunately, our schedules conflicted and though we were literally miles away from each other, we never did hook up. Funny thing is I could've picked up one of my hats in person, since he was working on it. It's probably a good thing I didn't get over there, since he'd still be trying to get me out of his shop after that!

It’s ok, Steve only lets him have one shell, and he has to keep it in his shirt pocket.

Oh man, I've been reading Fedora's archived posts leading up to the founding of Adventurebilt, and it's good stuff! Makes me want one even more! :D Check out this gem, dated Jul 30, 2004:
I have yet to name the hat company, but must do so soon, for the web page and sweatbands. Sharpetoys suggested Adventurebilt Hats by Fedora. I think I may put that on the sweat, but I have been toying with other names for the company itself. Along with the little logo on the sweat. Henry Johnson Hatter?, Tanis Hat Company?, Fortune and Glory Hats? Any ideas?

Henry Johnson?? I like Tanis Hat Co. But no hat brand name will come close to Adventureblit Hat Co.

My recommendation would be not to drop in unless you receive an unsolicited invitation to do so from Steve.

I agree with you Rick. Very wise.

Of course. I e-mailed him Sunday, but he's out of town until next week, apparently. From what I understand, he's pretty cool (as well as being an excellent hatmaker). *fingers crossed*
