Threw a bunch of dirt on my Bushman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCHhT79fQ8Y It's a light colored hat, and this lessens the ribbon to felt contrast.

I ordered a new Bushman today, in a darker color. Then I canceled. Perhaps the Campdraft (Open Road) has less front and back taper? More in AB territory? I'll try a Campdraft next. The only medium to dark brown offered is "Mid Brown" Is this the horrific blackish green of the Regular Fed? ...Blaaaahhh! I'll need to throw a bucket of dirt on that one and DEEP massage it in...... Anyone know what the Campdraft open crown height is?

... hatsdirect had a Campdraft on the shelf in my size, and it was my impression that hat had less front and back taper than a Bushman. I stayed up all night with the Bushman on in front a mirror, and a second, hand mirror, freeze framing Raiders. I could find nothing wrong with my Bushman! - I've had a real deep satisfaction with this hat ever since I got it. When I cut the brim down, it's flatness with a curl at the edge gave me the best Raiders brim I have had. When I replaced the tan half inch ribbon with a Federation ribbon, the hat looked wierd, due to the contrast, but once I threw dirt on the hat, it looked very Cairo. That was right after I seemed to find it's chin strap grommet on the Raiders hat! I haven't sanded this hat thinner, the liner has never been out of it. I'd say it's 90's vintage. ..... Here's my deal- I think the Raiders hat was an HJ. If it was patterned after an Existing Australian model, I would say it was this one. Seriously. .....So I went ahead and ordered a new darker Bushman (not a Campdraft) from hatsdirect, to get a color closer to the Raiders color - "deep fawn", which I think is the color of the Bushman shown on The David Morgan site, although the actual color of the hat DM sent me was much lighter, the same color as my vintage one. There is a very dark "nigerian brown" Bushman of Fedora's, shown in the Indygear Main, Fedora guide. But Deep Fawn is the darkest available at this time. I'll have to soften up my modern day Bushman, I hope without sanding it! ......... So, I'm kind of claiming to have the closest hat to the Raiders hat you can have short of a vintage HJ replica "Bushman" The realization has just got stronger as the Raiders mods proceeded. I'll be posting extensive video, so you can tell me where I'm wrong. ...... Good Luck......
