I must say I'm really pleased with the horsehide. I bought it as an alternative to goat as I had to replace my old jacket and goat was no longer offered. As it is, I actually prefer it. Although it feels really tough, the leather is wonderfully smooth and not at all stiff. I ordered mine with no leather facings, which I think improves the drape and gives it more of an Indy look. For a heavier hide i think the horsehide drapes very well. If you're looking for a durable leather jacket that drapes well I think Wested's horsehide is a pretty good choice. I've only been wearing mine for 2 days and already it's starting to gain some character.
These are bad quality indoor pics, but I'll post them anyway.

I don't remember. I could measure it, but I don't see how that will be of interest unless you have the same shoulders as me.PLATON wrote:I detect no shoulder droop.
What was your shoulder measurement?
The jacket feels heavy to pick up but doesn't feel heavy to wear. Leather facings are the leather parts along the inside of the zipper and inner pocket. The Raiders jacket didn't have them and I think they spoil the drape - but that's just my opinion.

Concur. The leather "parts" along the inner pocket do effect the HH drape on that side of the jacket. My solution, Pecard the pocket facing, and bend/twist it a trifle. It makes a difference.whiskyman wrote:* * *Leather facings are the leather parts along the inside of the zipper and inner pocket. I wouldn't rely on getting pockets like that unless you ask for them. The pockets you get on the standards don't seem to be like the photo's on Wested's webpage (or ebay pages).
On my standard 38R the pockets are 8 3/4 x 7, with the widest part of the flap being 2 3/4 in. To be honest they look pretty stupid. Half of the front of the jacket is taken up by the pockets. Given that the standard cut is aimed at overweight people, and there is far to much room at the bottom of the jacket for those who are 'slim' (or indeed not overweight) the large pockets make the bottom front of the jacket stick out when it's zipped up. Looks real funny from the side.
Mind you, my one may be an exception, but I wouldn't assume anything with a Wested order. They may not like getting long lists of specs, but it's better safe than sorry!

I wouldn't say the standard cut Wested is aimed at the over weight! At 38R you are pretty small, so yes, those pockets are going to look big on you. I've ordered a Wested for my eight year old step son- I'll be interested to see if they scale the pockets down much on that.
Whiskeyman- your jacket looks really good

Well, I guess most of the population is technically overweight (more so in the US than in Europe) so I guess it makes good business sense for Peter to cut his standard jackets to accommodate a bit of a belly. I could certainly do with more of a taper to mine - it's fairly tight at the shoulders but I'd have to eat at Mickey D's for a few years to fill out the bottom half! Had I know of the 80's fit before ordering I'd have gone for that, as I guess it addresses that problem.
Whiskeyman's jacket does look great though.
