Indiana G - Steammaster to the stars.
i could see it now if i was back in the 80's.......mr. ford, let me take that raiders hat from you and prep it for the next indiana jones movie installment....just let me heat up my trusty kettle.....then you throw it on like this...then give it some more steam on the inside....then take the tight pinch out....and viola!!!! you're ready to film the cockpit scene!

..Mr Howard didn't invent this method you know! ,Akubra reccomend steaming the brims themselves..great idea though to get a fed while waiting for the AB,but the quality of the AB is so good that you probably won't wear the fed again once the AB's arrived (speaking from personal experience! )Indiana G wrote:didja hear that? noel uses a steam kettle to bash hats.....thats one for me aries

Well, I'd love to get an AB because I really want the floppy Raiders look, but the wait....sigh.... I know, all good things come to those who wait, but I'm impatient, and then the Fed was so much better than I expected.
Truth be told I bet the AB is BETTER than the original hat.
Hi everyone, this is my first post here, but I've been reading posts for a long time. Maybe any of you can help me.
Just some questions, as I'm about to get an AdventureBilt:
-Which and why sould I get, beaver or rabbit?
(I read many different posts going for one or the other. In the movies it was Rabbit?)
Thanks

I posted earlier in this thread but I haven't had the time to order a Fed and figure out how to bash and such.
Is there an absolute guide (thread) on how to order the right size hat, bash it, etc. for noobs? The last post on this thread seems useful, but there are no pictures:

Any other help\suggestions on where to start with bashing and pinching correctly the hat?

firstly, to get your hat size right, measure your head where you want to wear the sweatband at and send that measurement to hatsdirect. kindly request to have them measure the inside of the hat prior to them sending it to you. this will gaurantee that the hat fits without having to use stuffing or an expanding block.genrader wrote:I posted earlier in this thread but I haven't had the time to order a Fed and figure out how to bash and such.

secondly, the bashing. there's a good tutorial at the top of the fedora section as you've noted. the images are gone but the directions are there. bashing a hat has always been a personal preference so you can never go wrong. akubras will take a licking and will take on any bash that you give 'em. they can be massaged and improved over time so don't be disappointed because your hat doesn't look like the hat you want after the first hour. have fun with it as you are embodying (sp?) your personal character in the hat.......follow the directions, specifically about the kettle.....don't really need that unless you're gonna need quick results from the brim....and please use the kettle very sparingly on the crown if you have to.....my poor akubra crown went from soc to tod in no time flat.......

What exactly is the color difference? Also are we talking about a color difference between the Fed Reg & the Fed Dlx or between the Feds and the AB? The reason I'm asking is that I'm also probably getting a Fed while waiting for my AB and I'm debating whether to get the reg or the deluxe.I didn't realize the color difference was as dramatic as everyone says

Very interesting reading on this post that I had overlooked until now. I was about to order a Fed until I read Steve's post that prior to June orders would be completed by end of year. I had resigned myself to now receiving my AB until April or May of '08 as I ordered mine in May of this year. Please correct me if I misunderstood his post and if so, is the Fed deluxe that much more SA than the regular. Also are brim dimension corrections necessary?

I think the regular Fed is of a darker shade, and some would argue that there is a greenish tint to it. I have a regular Fed (which I love to death!) and the color difference is very obvious when it's next to my AB (which I also love to death! ). Based on the pics I've seen, the Fed deluxe would be more accurate color-wise.
