New Magnoli HJ

Post by Nebraska Brad »

Here are a few shots of my new Magnoli HJ. The photos do not do this hat justice because in person it looks great. Indy did the bash for me which does not show up so well due to my marginal photo skills and my oddly shaped head seems to make a peculiar downward bump right in the front of the brim. I may try to adjust over some steam. Any thoughts or suggestions?

You want to deepen the centre dent and lower the back. This will give you a greatside profile and also reduce that very exagerated mushroom effect as seen from the front. I rather like the brim personally

whoa......that's a serious reverse taper you've got going there. my guess is that you've got a long oval head squeezing into a round oval block. i thought steve/fedora does all the bashing and not mags, no?

i'd stay away from the kettle on hj felt....might come up with some irreversible effects that nullifies the raiders hat block. use a cold water spray on finicky areas.

i'm hoping to get mine in a couple of weeks.

cheers,

G

First of all, congratulations on a fine score there!

Nice looking hat - after a bit of wear and a few small tweaks that will look the bees knees.

Wear it well!

Al

Thanks for the tips and comments I will do a little tweaking. I also thought the reverse was a bit severe myself.

G, you may be right on Steve doing the bashing I just don't know.

Max, I get the Bacon thing all the time. I don't see it myself. I do impersonate Adam Clayton in a U2 tribute band (though i don't look anything like him either)

Congrats on the Mag HJ! The brim on mine looks much wider than that on yours... must be an optical illusion caused by the relative shapes of our faces I guess...

Yep, the creases have changed from what I put in the hat, but the softness of this felt does that. I never expect the crease to endure the shipping. I mean, if you drop the box, the top crease will just pop out!! It is that soft.

Grab yourself a pic of the Raiders fedora, and recrease it. The top crease is too shallow, at least in the back. Drop it down to 4 inches.

The side creases are pushed back too far, and not shaped just right. I assume this happened in shipping.

The thing about these HJs, is you have to be able to do your own creases, due to the felt being so floppy. Fedora
