Just ordered a Todd's Standard

After reading some posts here about how much more raiders-like the todd's jacket was I decided to get one. Since getting my Wested Goat a couple of years ago i've become increasingly agitated by the overall fit and cut of the jacket. I love the sturdiness of it and the leather, but the fit is very important.

I was a bit hesitant to get a jacket in lambskin, but I figure, for the price it's a good deal. I could have bought a cowhide todd's jacket but I want to know how the lamb one pans out first.

Once the jacket has arrived, pictures will follow.

Dre, I just ordered one last week myself, it comes in Monday, I can't wait to see how it looks and fits. I have a Wested that is 7 years old, it was back before the "fixes" were made. I do love my Wested though, it has been through a lot, and has aged well.

I have a Todd's standard and it is great especially for the money. Pretty darned SA.

I just got my Todd's standard after ordering it the night before last. But then it only had to come a couple of hours drive to get here

It feels astonishingly light, as everyone has pointed out—it feels like a toy, to be honest, and when wearing it, I feel a bit like an action figure

. Proportionally it looks very accurate (perhaps a little short on me; I got a small). However, I had to check and double check just to convince myself it was even leather! I guess the poly lining doesn't help that feeling. I would prefer it to have a fair chunk more heft, personally. You can actually see the outline of the inside pocket against my chest! That's how thin it is.

The edges of the back panel were both folded back when I took it out of the box, with quite a strong crease. I'm putting it under some heavy books to try and remove these creases.

I get the feeling this is like a "sample jacket"—so you know what you will be getting if you order a $500 cowhide version...

That doesnt sound good, Ozraptor =( Especially the bit about it 'feeling like a toy'. Also, how tall are you? I'm around 168cm (quite short) so i'm hoping the length will be good on me. Is the jacket really that light and cheap feeling? Say, compared to the wested lamb?

And ultimately, do you think it was worth the money?

and that's why i pulled the trigger on a custom. todd's pattern is scarey close to what i see on screen.......the closest i've seen yet.

for $150, i think it's bang on to its worth if not a bargain. i'm sure i won't be regretting the purchase next summer

Dre, I think I'm 169 cm or thereabouts (5'7").

I basically don't get a kick out of wearing it, no matter how accurate it looks

Well it appears they sent the jacket VERY soon after I placed the order so there's no going back. If I get it and hate it i'll return it for a refund (and lose the cost of shipping

) but hopefully it works out. Or, if I love the look but just hate the leather, maybe i'll get the cowhide version, assuming that leather is really good (for the price of the cowhide it better be)

edit: I've noticed that the custom jacket has two choices of leather - cowhide and lambskin. I wonder if the lambskin is the same that's used in the standard, or a better hide?

the standard lambskin is different than the custom lambskin. the custom is thicker/better.

The look of the Standard is perfect-- and should be, since the pattern is directly from a screen-used jacket, and not just a best-guess approximation.

Also, my original Leather Concessionaires jacket was light as a feather-- just a little heavier than the Standard, as I recall.

The revision of the jacket history will probably nail down a lot of these details and eliminate a lot of the by-gosh-and-by-golly stuff we've had to suffer through for years.

If all you need is the movie look, you'll probably be very happy with the Standard, provided it fits you and doesn't come with the problems others have noted. If you require a real world jacket that definitely will stand up to rough treatment, it might be better to wait for Nowak's Indy 4 offering, or go for another custom jacket made of cowhide or horseshide.
