Looking for opinions on StarWarShop "official" hat

Does anyone have one of these and can offer feedback on accuracy, durability, etc?

Background: I have been reading some on the main site and in the forums, but I am a complete n00b to this Indy gear thing so please speak slowly and use small words. ;)

Mainly I am looking for a "close enough" hat that I don't have to do a lot of mucking around with to make screen accurate (just because I am lazy) and that will actually hold up to outside wearing. Seems like these would be a good shortcut as far as accuracy is concerned (they look pretty good to me but it's hard to tell from just one image each), but I really have little point of reference and especially when it comes to durability/value/etc.

Thanks in advance....

It really depends on how fussy you are. If you are like a lot of people here, this hat will never satisfy you and you will feel it was a waste of your money when you go after a better(more accurate)-looking model. If you are the particular type, you'd probably be better off spending more now on a better hat like a Federation or perhaps the Adventurebilt factory hat that may be offered soon.

If you are more of a casual fan who doesn't care much about screen accuracy and doesn't want to spend too much money. then this "official" hat may fill your needs quite nicely. But keep in mind that it probably won't hold its shape as long as many of the better-made hats you can choose from. As they say, you must "choose wisely!"

By the way, welcome and hope you enjoy it here!

Those hats have crowns that are stiff as rocks, but the brims shoot off at weird angles after a while. I've never owned a good Indy hat, but it seems to me the best deal is the Akubra Federation from Hatsdirect.com. I plan on ordering one soon while I wait for my Adventurebilt to arrive. Let me just warn you, having owned two of those starwarsshop hats in the past, they're rubbish. They don't even feel like hats. If they're still making them the same way as the last one I bought, they have plastic sweats. I actually cut the sweat out of my last one before giving up on it altogether.

These hats must have been better made years ago-- I've owned 3 and all of mine at least had leather sweatbands; if these have plastic sweats, I wouldn't go near them because they would probably be very uncomfortable. I've heard the Federations are great hats; I've never owned one, though.

Woah, my bad. I don't regularly explore the star wars shop. When I clicked the link i just glanced at the pic, which I dare anyone to say isn't a pic of the disney hat, and assumed it was. Everything I said was pertaining to the $30-40 Disney hat.

Just to put my two cents in, I got mine beck in seventh grade because it was the best I could find for $100. It works well as a costume hat, and it's pretty nice, though the brim does tend to take up any bend if it's sitting in an awkward place.

8 years down the road and I'm a much more serious costumer, and the fussy details are starting to bother me. =) But other than that, I think it's a great hat. Definitely not as junky as any of Disney's hats, as far as I've seen.

Spend your $100 on a Akubra Federation.
