Yes, but only a few scenes to get the details on my gear/prop right.

Yes, beginning to end while I munch a bag of buttery popcorn.

No. I've memorized every scene, so I now just play the movie in my head to save wear and tear on the DVD player.

We're back to SA action pleats now!?

Post by rigor »

It seems all my posts obsess over action pleats one way or another. Case in point from three years ago: viewtopic.php?t=7489&highlight=

Three years ago Wested said 3" pleats were the only choice on custom jackets. Today we have 1.5" pleats on off the rack (Special Offer) Raiders jackets. So I'm guessing I can order a custom jacket, 80s fit with 1.5" action pleats now? Yeah, I could call Wested and ask or I could read through every "Here are the specs on the jacket I just got" posts (which I always envy!), but chatting with you guys is more fun....

Hmm. You're right.

Maybe a Friday evening poll would be more fun.

Okay, I know this has been answered before...but what are the advantages of a 1.5 inch pleat over the 3 inch pleat other than SA? What is the better one to have? My head hurts with all the tweaks....I am close to ordering a HH LC from wested and want to know what to do with the pleats now...HEEEELLLLLPPPP

I don't think the 1.5" pleat has any advantages other than SA really I think the shallower depth pleats look nicer. I think a better question might be: over time even with elastic will 1.5" pleats stretch the leather (and elastic?) so that the pleats stay open permanently, look all wavy and funky? Anyone out there had any problems with shallow pleats with elastic...?

my guess is that the 3" pleat would give you more "give" in the jacket when throwing a right hook  the deeper pleats will also tend to stay closed more and give the jacket more of a bulky look imo.....i could be wrong.

i am enjoying the shallow sa pleats and love to see them pop open once in while.

_, thanks for the setting us straight on the whole "SA" thing.

As for the Texas ruler, I'm not touching that one with a 3', er, a 2' pole.

The reason we are talking 1.5 inch is because in the photo below

Image

it doesn't look like 2 inches.

also this
13. Pleat Depth - The orignal pleat depth of the Raiders jacket was shallow. Because the jackets used in the film were brand new the pleats stayed flat. When yo u wear a Wested for a while, some of the pleats start to become slightly wavy. This caused Wested to deepen the pleat depth up to 3" and later adding elastic under the lining to help keep the pleats closed. I've found that there were different sizes of pleat depths on the original jacket but the two you'd want to stick with are 1.25" or 1.5", which is what my original Raiders jacket made in 1999 had and they reflect the look of the original jacket well.
