Aluminum Zippers with black tape..

Post by Doug C »

Hey I'm looking for some opinions on using an aluminum zipper with black tape. I have an old (late 60s/early 70s) A-2 like black jacket that i can't seem to sell and it's got a "wavey" aluminum zipper that I'm considering using on a new jacket from Wested. This aluminum zipper is made with black tape (cloth). My thought is that the black tape [as opposed to brown] would not be too noticable with the Wested dark cotton liner (planning on no facing behind the zipps). I must have a silver zip this time but I sometimes feel the ones provided (usually nickel) are just too shiney, almost like jewelry compared to a good old aluminum one. So what do ya'll think about this?

doug c,

wested has silver zips with brown tape. if you are adament in supplying your own, i went online and got a silver zipper with brown tape quite cheapley from a new york company (any length you wanted)......the bad news was, peter's zippers are higher quality than what i received.

you're right though, all the silver zips that i've seen off the shelf have the black tape.
