A.C. do I detect a note of marketplace "smugness" in your jacket jubilance?

However, apparently the Federation market is targeted for the long in length.

Mine is starting to wrinkle and really get some character to it as well. :)

I got a little dirt on it yesterday as a test and it just wiped right off without a problem so I probably will dust it up a bit for Halloween. I probably won't go overboard with it like I did my Wested. Like AC said the jacket really doesn't need any "help" it looks the part even without the dirt.

Even out of the box I never thought this jacket was to "glossy" and now that I've worn it around a few days it really has this nice soft dull brown look to it.....

Heck, I'd buy another one. ;)

I agree with AC, too; the finish of this leather looks great and seems to have a very slight aged effect right from the beginning that doesn't require any additional distressing. I'm hoping the taller guys will have a version to purchase soon... this jacket is in a class by itself in terms of SA, and would be at any price.

Well I received my replacement jacket yesterday and am happy to say that the issue I was having before with the pleat appears to have been with that one jacket alone. This one fits together very well, unfortunately there seem to be quite a few small cuts into the outer skin of the leather in various places on the jacket (not sure how this occurred) I guess someone at the factory wasn't very careful. So while the condition of the leather isn't as great as the one I sent back at least I don't have to deal with that pleat issue which definitely would have bothered me forever. So I'm pretty satisfied overall, and look forward to seeing how this jacket does in the long run. I'd totally be open to buying another one in the future if I decide to wear this one out.

On a side note I also received my Aldens yesterday and love them! Really great boots. Definitely be buying another pair someday (one for the desert, and one for dress) feel great and look great.

AC, after sorting through some of them I see there is some variation in the collar alignment - they range from the middle of the storm flap to about 1/4" from the seam. In reality, the collar should align with the zipper in the back, which is a little to the left of center in relation to the storm flap. Otherwise, (design-wise) it would overlap the right collar when closed.

Snipes, glad you like your replacement. AC & Todd, thanks for the correction & clarification. It sounds like the zipper alignment with the end of the collar is the most important consideration.

Just wondering...for those who are too tall...is there enough leather in the cuff to let it out a couple of inches? That might solve the problem for you all

I would ask puppetboy about that. Mine seems to have a couple of inches of extra room in the sleeves, but I'm not sure how successfully they could be let out.

I have a Small with 23" sleeves and from what I can tell, there is a little more than an inch to let out. Hope that helps.

Got my size exchange in the mail today; great fit, but like any new jacket, it wouldn't drape right. Ran some hot water in the bathtub, soaked the jacket, wrung it out and put it on. Perfect! The water makes the jacket much heavier, and it drapes perfectly, stretching where it needs to. I'll wear it for a ride on the motorcycle later to help dry it out. I don't intend to do any major distressing at this time.

I also replaced the side buckles with black-finish rectangular slider rings from my local Tandy Leather.

Your mileage may vary.

I used Tandy 1" "Strap Keeper Loops", the barcode # is 98834 11569. It was around $2 for a 10-pack.

They come with a nickel-plate finish which I blackened using gun bluing.

It is a welded loop, so you need to break the weld with some wire cutters, no big deal.

Agreed! That second photo looks like it was also taken right out of the movie. If anyone wants a jacket that looks just like Indy's and doesn't necessarily need one that will stand up to heavy abuse, Todd's Standard is all you really need.

Sorry, AC, I wasn't referring specifically to the durability of the Standard-- no one really knows how it will hold up over time yet. But we do know how great it looks, and if that's all you really want in an Indy jacket, then the Standard definitely will fill your needs nicely. I think we've established that it's not going to fall apart at the slightest touch. I'll reword my last post to try and make my meaning more clear!

the funny thing i find about this jacket is that only YOU know how light it really is. in the pictures that i've seen, it looks as thick as any other jacket. when i put it on, it feels extremely light but in the mirror, it doesn't seem to have any discernable weight at all....just looks like a leather jacket :D

the pattern that todd uses is bang on SA imo.....so much that i'm thinking of ordering a custom raiders built to these factory patterns. if todd's current custom jacket come from identical (and i mean stitch nazi "identical") patterns, i just might order one as my go-to jacket.

what i've been enjoying the most is playing with the zipper and giving it the SA waviness......great jacket....steal of a price.

If you had another jacket built to the specs of Todd's jacket would it still look like his jacket does on you? That's the real question. It's obvious, to me at least , that part of the reason this jacket looks so good is because of the leather and it's light weight. You can't assume it's just all in the pattern.

Just some food for thought. I don't want someone out there assuming just because they order a jacket with these specs their still going to get the same look. The way the jacket drapes on a persons body has a lot to do with capturing the look in my opinion.

The ONLY "negative" I can see with this jacket is that it really isn't an "all season" jacket. At least I don't believe it is. I've been wearing mine here in Indiana but so far the weather had been fairly mild for this time of year. It *may* keep me warm during the winter because I can make it hug my torso and I could wear a thick sweater under it. Then again other than the MOTB episode and in Nepal I have yet to see Indy wear this jacket in any other cold climates. To me this jacket is the weight you would want a leather jacket if you were out trekking thru some jungle.

I'm trying to wear my jacket as much as possible but I'm guessing it won't be until next spring and summer before I really get some use out of it. :)

that's the million dollar question then ain't it? ....er....well the $499 question to be more precise. my gut tells me yes, it will look the same but built with a better hide and better lining. if the drape is not the same, it will come in in time assuming that todd's lamb is not strangely different to the leather that i am use to.

another question i have is, other than the materials, what else is different.....in the construction that is. i see that some of the lining is stitched directly to the panels of the leather....would this have any drastic effects on drape? food for thought indeed.

I wore my Indy jacket from Todd's out for Halloween and just for the heck of it I added some Fuller's Earth to it. Now I thought it screamed Indy BEFORE I did that and now it looks even better!!! It looks like I just ripped it right off Ford's back from the truck chase scene and the Well of the Souls scene in Raiders.

Here's a shot of me and my son (Indy Jr.) Halloween night. I know the lighting isn't that great but you can see how much more "character" the Fuller's Earth adds to the already awesome jacket. :)

Got to say I'm loving the look of this jacket. If only it was less of a gamble regarding the finer details, I'd definitely buy one. But I'm not sure I can risk the possibility of multiple returns being based here in the UK.

The jacket is still in England and I haven't seen it yet but I'm surprised that no one till now (at least not that I can remember) has ever tried to order this spec.
I'll post pictures of it as soon as I get it. You'll have to wait to see if Wested "nailed" that look.
Erri, I can't wait to see that jacket. Agent5 is perfectly right saying that the collar was longer than normal. However, there still are some photos to the contrary.

Hey I see R2D2 & C3PO hyroglyphs in that last link you posted Platon!

Show some pictures of the longer collar please, cause I've only seen the one where he's on top of the WoS. And I'd never heard that theory until recently.

On my Wested Goat it was harder to wipe off because of the grain of the leather. The lamb is so soft and smooth it just wipes right off with ease from what I can tell. :)

Yes, even I on occasion will hear that music from the game in my head when I read my own handle. More than not the part that's stuck in my head was the music that played when you got killed.

I got a wested goat a couple of years ago that I love but never quite fit snugly enough for my liking.

Interested in getting one of these jackets but have two questions.

Firstly, does the international shipping that they quote on the site include any sort of insurance/tracking?

Secondly, i'm not exactly sure what size to get. I normally wear 'medium' or 'small' in Australia but that could really vary. My wested is either a size 40 or 41 (not 80s fit) and it fits rather large on me. I think i'd be more like a size 38, but on the website the sizes only start at 44"?

Dre,

The sizes on the chart are the actual measurements of the JACKET - not sizes. Measure yourself and measure a jacket with the fit you want and you should know exactly what size to buy.

We ship USPS internationally - if you want to ship UPS we'll need to do it by e-mail since our shopping cart has no shipping options.

I discovered something tonight, and wanted to see if anyone else was having the same issue. The polyester lining inside the hand warmer pockets is coming out, and since I have never stuck my hands in them until now I can only assume they were this way or weren't sewn in very well that it didn't take much. Where it's coming out is the lining that is sewn up against the front of the jacket (the lining sewn against the hand warmer part is fine). Right now I'm contemplating just ripping the liner out, the hand warmer pockets are really quite impracticable due to the fact that they are quite small, and if I rip that lining out it will expose the leather that is behind there because it's basically sewed to the front of the jacket. Any thoughts? Anybody else noticed this?

Snipes, I just checked mine and everything seems to be fine. Oddly enough this was the first time I tried to put my hands in them and they are small. I could barely get my hands in there.....

The lining seems to be fine though. :?

Todd mentioned somewhere that the pockets are less roomy because they are patch pockets instead of being cut into the jacket's body.

The lining of my pockets is fine, too, but if the stitching on the lining of yours was loose to begin with, I can see how it might pull free when the jacket is zipped up snugly.

I guess I'm just cursed with bad luck when it comes to this jacket :? ...oh well it's not a big deal, I still think I might cut it out that way it would be like the the inside of the big flap pockets on the front of the jacket.

No, I think putting my hands in there forced it loose, plus there was a lot of rubber cement on the lining of one of the pockets and I was kinda scratching at it (not hard though). Then I noticed the lining that was stitched on the bottom and one of the side had completely pulled out and I could feel the leather behind it.

Ordered a standard todd's yesterday, but now i'm starting to wonder if that was a good idea. Everything about the jacket sounds great...except the leather. It'd be good if you could get a todd's standard in a better leather - without the 'custom' sizing, maybe for 250? From the reports in this thread, the leather just feels really cheap and plasticy (the post that scares me especially is the one that likens it to the leather on an old indy figure...sounds atrocious). I get the impression that as soon as I wear it out somewhere it'll be destroyed?

I know this is a jacket from 'todd's COSTUMES', but i'd like to actually be able to wear this jacket as a proper jacket and not just something designed for one or two conventions before it disintergrates

Dre - Honestly I don't think the leather on Todd's standard jacket is bad at all. It's thin, to be sure, as is the lining; but I didn't think of it as "action-figureish" in any way. Does it feel like a heavy leather jacket? Absolutely not. It's more like a light leather windbreaker. Is it the nicest best leather you can get? Certainly not, but hey it's $150. I can tell you I wore it out in high 40 degree temps with nothing but a long sleeve shirt underneath and was perfectly comfortable. Now, I did return mine, but that was due to a multitude of construction issues that not everyone else has experienced (see my thread here: viewtopic.php?t=24453).
