First Post - First Jacket

Post by spankuh »

Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking here for some time, but I finally purchased my first jacket. I picked an off the shelf Raiders from Wested in lamb. My first choice would probably be HH, but I live in southern cali and I'm afraid that's probably too heavy for the climate. I own a few A-2s in HH and love them, but I just don't have the opportunity to wear them that much.

In any case, I love the jacket. The weather has been a little cool in the evenings and mornings, cool enough that I don't look like an idiot wearing a leather coat out here. It's breaking in nicely with a little help from an occasional touch of hot water here and there.

I've got one big question - what's with the padded shoulders? I don't remember reading about that feature in any Wested lamb reviews. I was really surprised to feel the padding. I've got pretty broad shoulders and don't really need them. While lamb certainly isn't the hide that a true adventurer would choose, I have a hard time imagining Indiana fighting his way through the jungle with padded shoulders. Do all of Wested's Indy jackets come with padded shoulders? What about other makers?

Thanks and I really enjoy reading the posts here. I can post pictures of the jacket later if anyone is interested in seeing ANOTHER Wested. LOL

Welcome!

The shoulder pads are only in the new OTR jackets, I think the factory figured that with this leather being slightly thinner it might look better for folk with rounded shoulders. However, it's really easy to remedy, you can open the lining from one of the sleeves, (look at the two of them and you should be able to tell which they originally turned the jacket inside out from). Then invert the jacket and just take them out.

If that sounds scary, anyone with a little needlework skills can do it for you. Shouldn't take 5 mins.

And we'd love to see pics, no one has posted one of the OTR's being worn yet.

I just took a quick look a the sleeves and I can't see a difference in the liner stitching. I'll take a closer look tonight and post a few pics.

Thanks for the replies!
