Lamb - Wested or Gibson and Barnes?

Post by CM »

How does Wested lamb compare to the Expo jacket lamb. I'm after a premium hide.

Cheers - CM

From my experience (I've gone through a number of Wested's, but only one G&B) the Wested uses buttery soft lambskin. The G&B feels like it's in between a Wested Lamb and a Wested Goat in softness/toughness.

If I were going to drop the money on a high-end jacket like a G&B, I'd have it made from veg goatskin.
but neither wested or g&b carry this hide.......or is this available at g&b upon request?.....all i see are chromey chromey chromey skins

I'm no leather expert, that much I'll readily admit. but if I've read anything negative about wested's (besides shipping and order screw ups) it seems to revolve around their stitching. I CAN say that my goatskin GB has amazingly high quality stitching. not only is it completely uniform, but I've done my best to stretch out the back, and not so much as a squeak from the shoulder seams.

i'd never had a problem with wested's stitching though i have heard and seen what you are talking about. i have not seen any problems as of late unless a member wishes to chime in on an unfortunate circumstance.

i'll put up my veg tanned lamb wested to a g&b anyday as far as quality goes.....guess it would be like calling "all-in" blind as i have never handled a g&b, but my wested is as well crafted as my us authentic indy.

...no _, i've never handled the expo....but i like the pocket aces that i'm holding

I can't offer a comparison to G&B but I do love my Wested authentic lamb.

The stitching is fine, and other than some fit issues with the back panel and shoulders (which Peter resolved) I am 110% happy with it.

I think the feel and drape of it are also reasons I would choose lamb over the other hides. I am surprised at how quickly my jacket has lost the "shiny glove leather" look and has become duller and wrinklier through wear/travel etc.
