I bought a pre-distressed cow a few years ago, but now I'm thinking about getting another in a different hide-one that I can distress naturally through wear. Initially I had intended on trying the goat this time around, but don't see it as an option anymore. Has it been discontinued or is it still available upon request?
If it is no longer available, from what I have read the horse hide seems to be the best substitute, but will it be just as "heavy" as my pre-distressed cow? I'm kind of looking for something different. Durable, but without all the bulk.
TIA
Thinking about getting another Wested...

i can throw in a hat for wested's preshrunk veg tanned lamb. though not screen accurate in colour, this is heavier, more rugged hide, than wested's goat (at least the one i have which is right before they stopped selling them). wested's goat didn't seem to want to drape to my body as nicely as the lamb does and this lamb is quite a thick hide....comperable to a brogden track cowhide jacket that i have. the hide seems very tough in appearane but then again i have not, nor do i wish, to stab it with a knife
this leather does not need distressing as it will distress naturally very quickly.
btw, i believe OTR goat wested's are available.

I didn't see that option on Wested's website. If I decided on it, would I just request it in the special requests section of my order?
So if I'm looking for something lighter (as in weight) than my pre-distressed cow, Horse Hide probably wouldn't be a good choice then? I'm really looking for something that's going to be extremely durable. I had remembered all the praise the goat got from all my research here before I bought my pre-distressed cow a few years back and it seems like HH is now goats successor, but if it's not as light as goat, I think I'd probably opt for that vegetable tanned lamb (if it's just as durable).

The horsehide is somewhat heavier than the predistressed cowhide, from my experience, the plain cowhide is the heaviest.
Cow
Horse
Goat
=Veg Tanned Lamb
=Predistressed Cow (Novapele)
Lamb
Crunch lamb
Authentic (Special offer) Lamb.
Of course this is totally unscientific and only based on the jackets I have handled and worn.

Now could you compile that same list based on durability in your opinion?

They didn't get hides that passed Peter's quality standards. http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?t=19889
