Long Oval Head Shapes

Looks like I'm just full of questions today so here goes another:

Fedora recently wrote,

"And going by the PR photo of Ford sitting with Shia, you can see his long oval head warping the brim of the hat. I think we will be in for a pleasant surprise, if you are a Raiders fedora fan. Fedora"

I too have a LO head shape. Why does a long oval head shape cause warping to a brim?

A long oval head, to my understanding, can warp a hat if the hat is not specifically a long oval shape. Wearing a regular oval hat on a long oval head, for example, is what gives us the wonderful 'swoop' of the brim that is so prized in a SOC(Streets of Cairo) hat. Hope this helps!!

Yeah, but since Steve made the hats for Crystal Skull I'm sure he knew Harrison had that head shape ahead of time and tailored it specifically for him.

So why would the brim warp?

I think they wanted the warp. Knowing Mr. Ford's head shape allowed them to make the hat in a way that created the warp they were looking for.

Pushing a round hat over an oval head also makes the hat stay on better, as it's a tighter fit. Less prone to blow off.

Personally I find it uncomfortable after a bit, and prefer a long oval hat for my long oval head.

Hmnnn, don't know if that really gets to heart of the matter...

Point of fact: I have a custom made cavalry hat that was made using a conformer kit, matching not only the LO shape, but the pattern of my head exactly. It's comfortable and I can wear it all day, PLUS it stays on better since it was made for my head.

I don't think Harrison would want to wear a hat all day that would give him a headache.

So why would Steve have made a hat for Harrison that would warp if he knew his measurements ahead of time?

Oh no we didn't.

HJ did not offer a long oval back then. And that helped in creating the Raiders look. Since we knew the new film hat was not to be the Raiders in creases as they were looking for costume continuity with TLC, but we used the Raiders block because they did not want a tapered hat like some of the films featured, and since every hat they looked at besides ours were tapered...........it helped us get the deal.

Because we wanted the brim to hopefully warp, thus looking back to Raiders even more. The hats that were sent, and fitted, pressed on the front of his head, which made it seem a bit tight. But his long oval head was doing this. We sent a few hats that were stiffer, but most were softer rather than stiff and these would of course "give" and would not be uncomfortable for him to wear. Plus, as the costumer said, he wanted the hat to fit a little tight for the action scenes. I noticed a slight brim warp on one of the photos from Hawaii. That was one of the soft hats. The one he wore in NM was a little stiffer than the others. So in the film there are stiffer hats, and softer hats, with 2 being super soft. Per their specs. Fedora

Yep, and the brim while not as vivid a warp as the Raiders hat, is trying to do it. That is the first time I have seen this pic. Is it from the Official site? Fedora

Looks like his action pleats have the dreaded droop, too.

I dunno if that will be as obvious when you see the film.

Put it this way, it should not be that way going by what I know. But that will have to wait on _'s write up later on. There will be some surprises with this Crystal Skull jacket. Big surprises when compared to the others. Fedora

The first thing I noticed was that he's wearing the bag OVER the jacket. That's odd. The new jacket does look a lot heavier than the originals, and I really like how you got the turn in the hat. That's my favrotie part of the Raiders hat.
