Possible close enough?

Hi all,

Being a fairly new member and having just ordered some ABs, I'm on the look for a close enough jacket. I came across this one at overstock.com. What do you think?

Not bad in my humble opinion, especially for the price...the pockets look good.

It's got a good close enough "attitude" to it - the back is completely different however --- but still for a good enough, it's good enough.

If you really want authentic Indy IV gear, just wait a few more months until the Indy IV jacket maker is announced, and get a jacket from them. That way, you'll have a screen (and prop) accurate jacket to go with the hat!

I would think people looking for a close enough jacket are looking because of the cost of the authentics...

That's almost always true. But when I see people spending >$100 on a close enough jacket...wouldn't it be wise to save up and get a Wested a couple months later. It's better than regretting the close enough and spending even more cash on a better jacket.

A close enough jacket price range should be ~$50 IMO

That's a very good point - and once you have one quality jacket - it's a slippery downhill slope from there - I'm still on the prowl for a great jacket even though I don't NEED any more.

I think some guys are just in a position where they just can't justify spending 300 dollars on a jacket...or just can't get permission to spend that much on a jacket. However, they can justify spending 100 - 150 dollars on a "close enough." Not saying this is the case in this instance. I just know that when people ask how much I paid for one of my jackets and I say 300 bucks (God forbid they ask about the Belstaff) you can see their eyes get wide as if I'm crazy. Just priorities I guess.

Or, for just 20 bucks more, you can get a real Wested Denim Indy Jacket
that is accurate in its shape, cut, pockets ect. Just not leather.

But for that matter, if you go by what you are saying, then the Wested
Denim is also not a good buy, and anyone who wants one of those
should just save up for the leather version for 200 bucks more. So why
does Peter have it available for anyone right? I guess its not "Wise" to
get one of those either.

Its all about what you can afford, and what you want it for.

The "close enough" jacket talked about here is only non-authentic to
us because we know what a real Indy jacket should look like, be made
from, ect.

To the average Joe on the street, any leather jacket with a collar on it
is an Indy jacket, and they have no clue, nor do they really care if it
costs $100.00 for a close enough, or $300.00 for a Wested, or almost
$500.00 for an Expedition. It just looks good to them, and THEY like it.

Just like the Denim Indy, its there for people who CAN'T afford the
real thing for one reason or another, and its great that items like that
are offered to the public at an affordable price.

Well, that's not the ONLY reason many of us got one.....but it's still a good reason.

JAGordon's hit it on the head. I would love to have a Wested, but after buying the AB's it's a little high in price for the moment. It is a possibility that I won't even get a close enough, but I'm on the lookout for one at a reasonable price. I also suppose that when it comes to SA, I care more about the SA of the hat rather than the other gear. I already own a brown whip that I've had for years and I'm rather attached to, ditto on a military bag (need a strap though). And if I'm wearing a jacket, a tan shirt and khaki pants and brown shoes will look spot on to most people (at least if they don't spend time here ) especially with the AB on my head. Anyway, just my personal preferences, I'm sure I'll eventually get to all the authentic gear, just not all at once.

I didn't buy a denim b/c I wanted a close enough and couldn't afford a leather. I have and still use a G&B. I bought the denim as a lighter alternative to a leather jacket.

Very true!

Its nice that Peter offer these. They are a great, light weight
jacket that is a well made, quality piece that for many, can take the
place of an expensive jacket, and still look the "part".

Not everyone can afford an expensive leather jacket, and not everyone
WANTS an expensive leather jacket, so its nice there are alternatives out there
for those people.

Some people would rather put those extra couple of hundred bucks
twards their kids education, or new clothes, or something for the house
that the entire family can use. To me, thats "wise".
