Western Stage Props Raiders holster and leather belt (PICS!)

Post by ztmario »

Received my WSP belt and holster yesterday ($79 for the holster, $59 for the belt with attached whip holder), and am pretty happy about it. The holster is absolutely amazing.. even better after I worked it over a bit with a lighter. Creased in the edges, added some ash, it's a much richer brown color now, although it was never really orange in the first place. I know Lee Keppler made these for WSP at one point, and now they seem to be made by Alfonso leather. the only difference I can see is the stamp on the back of it. Great quality overall, and even though $5 more than Lee's, it was worth it for me to be able to use paypal.

The belt is also great quality. It's finished on both sides and when I showed it to someone who used to make saddles and other leather goods, they estimated it at $45, so it definitely doesn't come across as a costume belt. As far as SA.. not so much. the buckle holes are too close to the end of the belt, and the metal swivel keeper it comes with looks like absolute ###. I was actually going to return it just because of the keeper, but then cut the leather keeper off an old navy belt and switched them out. It's MUCH better now. I'm a waist size 34 and ordered a 36.. it's a little too short, and I wear it on the second hole, but not worth paying more shipping to exchange it. Also came with a wax coating that rubbed off as I loosened the leather. The whip holder is the kind that won't open unless you push down on it, and there's pretty much no chance of the whip knocking it open. It's not a no-slip, but it's very snug with a 10 footer, and I've been able to walk around, jump, do stairs.. and really no slippage of the whip.

And finally.. one on me.

even though I don't have as much slack hanging off as I'd like.. I think that's how it's generally supposed to look (minus the jeans). I couldn't find any real review of the WSP stuff prior to buying, so hopefully this'll help someone else out a little down the road.

Also, anyone think it's worth exchanging the belt for a longer one? If I ordered the Todd one the way he suggests, how much slack would I end up with?

I've got the same rig. I, too, am not to happy with the buckle and the keeper of the belt. I have been trying to find a decent enough [metal] keeper to swap it out but no such luck so far, believe it or not. I have a cheap Disney whip in my holder and it works pretty well and I, too, find the holder tricky to release. Definately something Indy would NOT have carried by his side, . Still a good buy, for what it's worth. I hope it serves you well, and you're right - the belt doesnt LOOK costumey which is a plus!

I'm not really an SA nut, but the keeper it comes with is just retarded. even if it wasn't supposed to be an Indy belt, the "keeper" doesn't belong anywhere near a respectable piece of clothing.

As far as the whip holder goes, I wouldn't call it "tricky" necessarily, you just have to push down more than out and it'll open right up. when you're closing it, just do the opposite, angle it up and roll it back into place, rather than trying to push it straight on.

And I honestly do hope to have one some day.. to be honest, the only reason I went with WSP was to keep from having to mail a check, and just in case I had to make a return and needed the exchange done quickly. otherwise, I would have went with the original.

come on Lee, get a paypal account!
