Double stiched you say?

Post by PLATON »

I think it was said that the original LC jacket had 'double stiched shoulders' (see below)

Image

The problem is I don't see them in the screen caps. Do you?

My question would be where the picture of the double stitched jacket came from. What an interesting situation that would present if whatever jacket that was was being displayed as an LC jacket and wasn't, and was found because someone was paying that kind of attention.

Oh. Well, could be a small design change over the years, or a simple trick of the eye onscreen and that's why we don't see it.

Good screencaps, Platon. For what it's worth, the Indy IV jacket in the official site video appears to have double-stitched shoulder seams. Make out of that what you will.

LOL! There are many ways to double stitch. One is a double-top stitch and the other is using a hidden stitch and a single top stitch. You are confusing the double top stitch with a double stitch using a single top stitch...
That is true, but I think its Platons point to say that on Wested's website
it states you will get the double row stitch, as that is the one that they
show, and mention specifically, not the hiden double stitch you mention.

From the screen grabs, its obvious that the stitching shown on the screen,
is different than what is shown, and is available, from the website.

As you mention, you think the double row stitch is ugly, and you do not
prefer it. But that is what is shown, so how, if a person wants to buy
a LC jacket, do you know which type of stitching you are going to get, if
the website says its one thing, but you get something else?

As to that first screen grab? I've never seen an Indy jacket with a double top stitch that I can recall. IMHO - it is an "ungly" stitch and I prefer the double-stitch with the single top stitch. Is that an Indy jacket from Peter's site???
Yes, the first picture is right from Wested's own website, where they
tell you what type of stitching was on the LC jackets, which, as the
screen grabs show, was not quite the case in this example.

Just for your information, if you right click on any picture on the
internet, and go to the bottom of the pop-up menu, and hit "properties"
you will get a window with all the information about the picture, such
as its name and where its hosted from. This also applies to any other
part of a website, such as the backround, headers, sidebars, ext.
The first picture does indeed comes right from the Wested website.

I say the above to provide weight to what I am about to say. I have never seen a double top stitch used on an Indiana Jones jacket in the manner pictured in that image taken from Wested. I think we are posing the wrong question - what jacket is that a picture of? I have to imagine it is either a mistake and is actually a picture of a different jacket, or there is some other story.
I do believe that the confusion is coming from Wested's own website,
not the fact of which type of double stitching is better, stronger, whatever.

On Wested's website, the picture of the shoulder is shown, along with
several other pictures of jackets that are stated to be LC jackets, and
the following quote if right from Wested's own website, right above
the pictures:
The Jacket produced for this film has a longer collar, snaps on the Zip Guard & double stitched shoulders, The photo below is of an actual film jacket.
I think its this information that is causing the confusion. According to
the website, its this double row stitched seam that is what was used on
the LC jackets, even though we can't find any proof of that on film. Thats
what Platon is refering to.
I hope this post did not come across as condescending in anyway. While I would hope it was not your intent, Flathead, your post did come across that way and I found it hilarious...
No, not at all. I was just trying to show where this information is located
at, and how to obtain it if you did not know. I find it alot easier to link the
pictures up this way, as you can just cut and past the link in directly.

Exactly.
BTW I like the hidden stitch myself.

And sorry, can't resize the pics cause they're hosted elsewhere.

And this LC jacket that someone from this forum got lately, although hit the jackport collarwise, seems to have this double stitch on the shoulders. Correct me if I am wrong.

Great jacket tho

On the Indyjacket.Com website the pictures and detail of LC have been revised and the double stitch removed. The picture that was shown was a prototype of what I beleive to be the revisions of the LC jacket for the 'Sculls' film although nothing is certain.

Indy 3.5? :)

The actual LC jacket didn't have the double stitch.

You know, I honestly wonder if these big pockets are justified... How many gearheads actually DO carry their grail dairies in their pockets?

Castor, you're a man after my heart. My pet hate is big pockets with a small pocket flap. Ruins the look of an otherwise good jacket. Never understood why the standard Westeds don't have more accurate pockets. I hardly use the pockets anyway - it's uncomfortable carting heavy gear in them.
