US Wings Help

After searching through the archives I'm considering purchasing a US Wings in lambskin. It seems that this jacket is the best choice for a TOD style jacket, without having one custom made.

Does anyone own a size medium? I was just looking for some measurements. Can someone help out with pocket measurements, chest, and sleeve length. Any information would be appreciated.

I wish I could help you with the size thing. I ordered a XL lambskin a couple years ago - and personally it was way too big and bulky. I actually ended up selling it at a garage sale for way les than I paid for it. However, I made the BIG mistake of not consulting the very fine folks here first to see how things would fit. I could of saved myself alot of frustration by using the resources here. Kudos to you for doing what I should have done - and when you get it -- please post pics!

Justin, since you seem to have done a bit of homework on this, I'm sure you've come across the sizing issues. I wear a medium/size 40 and ended up trading from a medium to a small to an extra small until I got a jacket that fit me right. That said, it was a clearance jacket, and not their signature series line, so I can't comment on the signatire series.

My best advice, as I've stated previously in other threads, is to take a jacket you own that fits you well and record those dimensions (or your own personal dimensions). Without telling them your sets of measurements, call US Wings up and have them physically take a jacket you're interested in off the rack and have them measure the jacket for you over the phone. If the dimensions match up with your recorded set, have them send you that very same jacket, even if the label says "extra small." Go by the actual measurements, not the tag.

Hi Justin,

I have a size medium U.S. Wings Indy jacket in goat. I purchased it about 3 months ago after pulling some measurements on US Wings large and extra-large jackets from the archives.

The measurements of my jacket are: 23" armpit to armpit across the chest, 19" shoulder to shoulder across the back, 24 1/4" sleeve (shoulder to cuff), 7"X9" front pockets, and 29" from the top of the collar to the bottom of the back of the jacket.

I wear a 42R in most jackets, and this one fits me fine. The goat is much softer than I anticipated, and the one I received doesn't have the insulation layer that I've read about in other posts regarding US Wings jackets.

Mine is a G-2 in antique lambskin and I am very pleased with the quality and construction of the jacket. Mine was a clearance jacket made a while back by Avirex, and though some don't like Avirex for some reason, I have no doubt this jacket will last me many years. The only issue I had was getting a jacket that fit! Since the sizing has been inconsistant from jacket to jacket, you're still best off having them measure a jacket off the rack for you, though Scott makes a point with the medium that fits him, when it sounds like a large is usually the way to go for him.

Here's a pic of my US Wings G-2, extra small. Keep in mind my two Westeds are 40 and 38, respectively. The workmanship feels every bit as good to me as my Wested.

Bink, if the XS = 40 does that mean the 2XL is really a 4XL

I'm in a 44R now and the USW Med goat fits me fine also. However mine has the insulated lining.

Bink, my height is 5'10 and I weigh 150. Do you think an x-small USW Indy goatskin jacket would fit me better then a regular small?

Nice jacket, binkmeisterRick. I've had my antique lambskin Avirex A2 for almost 18 years. Leather-wise, it's the toughest jacket I've ever had, but the lining is all shredded up now.

Guys, all I can suggest is to do like I already mentioned and have them measure up a jacket, and if it fits, buy that exact jacket. If US Wing's sizing was consistant, even too large, yet consistant, that would be one thing, but since there is no way to be certain a "medium" is a medium, you need to call them. That has been MY personal experience, but not everyone's, so I can't say that 2XL is really a 4XL or that one size small would be better than another size small. I won't even venture to guess on this matter since one medium could fit like a medium, and another medium fit like an extra large. Sorry, gang, I can't help you any more than that.
