You can relax. I got my jacket yesterday as well.

Unlike Michaelson, it's actually a bit lighter than I expected. Overall, I'm very pleased with the jacket. Wore it to work today!

I understand now. I was tempted to get a cotton, but for some reason, it just didn't look right.

Once I saw the pictures for the demin, I knew I had to get it.

Though I have loved my cotton twill jacket since it was introduced, and it's probably the MOST worn of ALL my jacket rotation, I have to say you choose wisely in waiting for this one.

The cotton twill is a nice jacket, but a bit to high maintenance, as it's not a 'rough and ready' material like the denim, and has to be dry cleaned. Not a good idea when it's a fabric that is being worn as a daily wear jacket, and can get stuff spilled on it quite easily when traveling. (been there, done that, getting tired going to the dry cleaners!

) A couple folks here did try to put the twill jacket in their washing machines on gentle cycle, and it washed ok, but the cotton twill thread balled up on the surface, making it a really linty looking jacket from that point on. Once again, not a good thing.

This new denim jacket is dead on target for what we were discussing clear back at Indyfan. Fallguy was the first one to post the idea, then he and I did our best to get Peter, then David Hack of Wings to create some for us. Peter was busy with other projects at the time, and though David made a GREAT jacket, he stopped just short of making it right by never offering his version in dark brown! Needless to say, NO one wanted a knaki colored Indy jacket, so though folks did purchase it, sales were always tepid, and the jacket was eventually pulled from their line. Sad, as it WAS a top notch jacket....just wrong for OUR requirements.

So, I believe we've finally arrived. Now, to field test.......

For those who have ordered/received thier denim jackets, did you order
a standard, off the rack size, as per Wested's website, ie a size 42, 44, 46? Or can
they be ordered with slight mods like our regular Raiders jacket?

I ask because I always seem to need the sleeves on my jackets
shortened by about an inch or so, and I was wondering if Peter is
offering this on the denim jackets.

I got a 40 off the rack and it fits great. Much better than normal off the rack clothes.

I wore mine exploring yesterday it did well in several ww2 bunkers and on a few cranes.

How are the sleeves on that one. I recall us both having problems with off the rack jackets normally being a little short in the sleeves.

Comparison shot with my G&B Dark Brown Lamb

I did a quick measure of my jacket (also a 44R

) and came pretty close to the measurements on Wested's website. So shoulders are ~6.8 inches and sleeve I measured at just over 25.25[/url]

Mr. Das, could you measure your jacket across the chest, from one
armpit to other, with the jacket zipped up.

I wanted to see if the denim jackets have the same amount of movenment
room incorporated into them as the leather jackets do.

Since we can wash these, and they are cotton, they may shrink some
and if thats the case, I would want to go up a size just incase.

I'm at work right now, but I ordered my first Wested back in 2003. The fit to that jacket was prety close-tailored. Meaning, if your a size 44 and order a size 42 to try and get that fitted look, there is no way it'll fit you.

I believe over the years, Wested started loosening their overall sizes by about a size. So a 44 would actually be a 45 or 46(at least, that's how it felt like when I ordered my next few jackets).

This jacket feels a lot like the older, closely measured jackets of the past.

I'll post the measurements when I get home...unless Michaelson beats me to it

I measured it and it's really odd. I got a measurement of 25". On my Wested, if I ordered a 44R, I would get a measurement of 22". It does feel like a true 44R, though.

So I have had this jacket almost a week now and I have worn it every day. Just to test it out you understand.

Activities:

Worn it while exploring a disused RAF base, bunker and hospital,
Worn while climbing
Worn it to work,
Worn it on a date,
Worn it in pouring rain,
Worn it on the London Underground,
Slept in it,
Used it as a pillow,
Left it screwed up in my bag for 12 hours,
Fallen over blind drunk in it.

What are my thoughts after this period?

Well it's simply amazing, it looks smart when I need to look smart yet it is still durable and warm enough to keep me warm and dry in proper British Rain. Yet cool enough on the tube (just upstairs from the fires of ####, it's why it's so hot). I really have to say this is now one of my favourite jackets and I will be wearing it more, it has already replaced my old exploring jacket and I will probably order a size larger so I can wear it for work with my body armour under it.

The sleeves are a great length for me and I can get a great range of movemet from them, they're not at all restrictive like some jackets.
Handwarmer pockets are good, they actually keep ones hands warm yet they don't gape open when not in use.

I've crawled about in mud and dust with it and gotten it soaked through. All it has needed is a quick brush off or dry and it looks as good as new. I don't know how this will fare over time though, I know demin tends to age quite rapidly?

The negative points.
Yes it is all singing all dancing and I would reccomend anyone but you as a lightweight version of a leather jacket but it does have a few things I would like to change.

D rings, they're rubbish. The sidestraps slip through them with ease and I find the jacket gaping open should I do anything remotely physical. I've tacked the sidestraps in place as a tempory measure to prevent this until I remember to ask Peter for the other bits.

Conclusion:

Best value for money wash and wear jacket I've ever bought, I would and will buy it again so i have spares but I don't think I will be needing them any time soon. The girl I was on a date with got to wear it too and she liked it comments were "mmm its warm" were heard from her so what more approval does it need. If you don't have one then I think you should.
