the works of art that i get from steve all have the following specs:

raiders hat, 4 1/2" finished crown, standard brim dimensions, my initials on the sweat and the usual 1 1/4" turn.

i received my AB beaver today and after about 1/2 an hour of fiddling i realized that the hat wasn't turned....it was straight on! she already had the 'cruel' pinch in there and an extra deep channel that i requested so i didn't have the gumption to turn and rebash the crown. i have lots of ab's with the turn already so i decided to finish it as a "waterfall fedora" as in this pic:

i thought it came out quite well and i think i can get use to wearing an unturned raiders hat.......so steve, no need to apologize on missing this and its not my intention to point out one of your mistakes....its more like you've helped me realize another aspect of the ab's beauty and for that i thanks you

now, my pregnant wife was trying hard to duplicate the picture above with me in it just to show off the brim bash but she couldn't get the camera focussed, the lighting right, her hand steady, etc.....so instead of getting a pregnant woman mad, i took off the hat, threw it on her noggin and grabbed a pic



now she's trying to get royalties off me for using her image. i told her that she signed all of that away when she signed our wedding licence

The beauty of an un-turned hat. I think sometimes people overlook it. Personally sometimes I'm just a little scared to turn my hats, so none of mine are turned.

But I think yours came out great! The beaver felt hats sure hold that tight pinch much more nicely than the rabbits. Looks great to me!

Gratz on the new hat!!! Its always great getting to see some new indy gear and even more fun if I am the one that is getting it Also gratz on the little on thats on the way...do they make newborn fedoras? Oh...and one last thing....it is an unwritten understanding that all royalties (or anything else she wants) do in fact go to a pregnant wife. Sorry to have to break it to ya this way G, but thats just the way the fedora bashes.

One of the things I found when I got my first AB is that it's easy to get the brim to look turned even though the hat isn't. It may have to do with the stiffener, but I think it's also a lot to do with the felt. All you have to do is wear it, and then pull/shape the brim off to one side a bit. It worked for me! Also remember that not all Raiders hats were turned, so it's still a Raiders hat!

here's my best attempt at the waterfall promo photo.....cept i don't have access to a waterfall.....so i settled for our sunflowers



btw, that's my veg tanned lamb wested i got on....it's darkening up quite nicely. castor, if you see this, this is what 1/2 a tin of brown pecards can do to the veg tanned leather. photos however, do not do it justice as you can't see all the little variances in hues within the hide. great stuff!!!

Good gravy. I can't believe I forgot to turn a hat!! I must be going nuts. My excuse(which is no excuse) was I was making more film hats when I was doing that one. And they don't get the turn. Yeah, the stuntmen are dropping like flies!! Which means more hats for the film. It seems to never stop, these film hats. And I thought when the original order was completed, we were finished!! It looks like I will be still doing film hats until the film is finally in the can. That has been the case so far anyways. I am making those hats as we speak, and I take a break. So, my regular orders are mixed in with the film hats. Hope I don't send the wrong hat to the wrong person!!! Fedora

thanks for the kind words and wishes. my first hat was a beaver AB whose crown was too short and brim too wide. i still love it to death as it was my first indy fed. i have 2 other rabbit ab's. one that's my go-to hat which has the nice deep channel, idol grab brim front and the flat soc back brim (which i may try to curl up again to give it an overall idol grab look). the other rabbit is my tall (extra 1/4") crowned raven bar hat. the 2 hat's being rabbit, i wanted a bulletproof idol grab hat so i ordered another beaver with the correct dimensions but got this one and it didn't have the turn. i made it into the waterfall fedora from the promo picture and i fell in love with the crisp clean look of an even brimmed hat.....what i learned from all this? steve knows whats best for my head....i don't think it was a mistake.....not on the subconscious, zen like level......ooooh....awwww......

i've got my 3 initials stamped on the side of most of them. i've seen some longer ones such as 'canyon' or 'scoundrel'. all of them look great as steve does a very professional job.

and with the hat collection, i don't think my little guy will find that as interesting as my star wars collection. i'm gonna have to put a fence around it.......and gaurded.....by sharks...with laser beams mounted on their heads

I found myself laughing at the sharks with laser beams comment. must be the late night air. I have ordered a beaver AB but have no idea what to ask Steve for. Are their different crown heights? ie. is the idol grab taller than the Ravens bar (these are my 2 favorite scenes inthe movie).
I told him I just wanted a quintessential Raiders look. Boy he is a nice guy. So helpful. Also trying to figure out what I should get stamped in. Is it a stamp or a punch that goes right through the leather?

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! It looks just a couple shades shy of authentic brown, and this is probably a trick of the light, but it strangely looks less beaten up than my own, *newer* jacket... (which I've been babying btw). It's weird, but I have to admit that my own jacket, which has just been fed Pecards' lotion once, and plenty of sunlight, looks pretty much the same color as yours... if not a little darker? Perhaps it's time to experiment with a tin of black tint?
