Need a Fedora for Halloween...

Post by NewJerseyRaider »

Hello everyone,
Just as the title states, I'm looking for a fedora for Halloween. I dont want to spend a lot of money, as its not something I'd wear often-if ever. So if anyone has one their looking to unload, please send me a PM. I'm not sure what hat size I'd wear, other than to say that when I took a measuring tape around my hear it came to 23".
Thanks a lot!

If you're looking for a one-time Indy hat, do you care how screen accurate it is? My suggestion would be to get one of the "official" wool Dorfman Pacific hats. If, as you say, you don't want to spend much money and you plan to seldom, if ever, wear the hat again, the Dorfman would fit that perfectly. You can pick one up new pretty cheap, too. Scroll down to the bottom of http://uswings.com/aviatn.asp and you'll see the hats new for around 30 bucks plus shipping. If it's only for Halloween, folks will recognize you as Indy regardless of how "spot on" the hat is. Yes, folks, I'm actually recommending the Dorfman.

I'm mellllllllllting! Mellllllllllllllllllting! OHHH what a world!!

Seriously though - the weirdo is right. Dorfmans (those official hats) are great for Halloween. They'll do you a good service if you just want to wear them for a short amount of time. But you KNOW deep inside you want all the expensive stuff now and should just write one big check and take care of it now. :P

I to will say Dorfman, if you use ebay you can find them on the cheap. the 23" would probably be an XL in the felt Dorfman. I have a large and it is just a bit tight. I just bought one for my wife for her birthday, and my youngest son wears his Dorfman just about every day.

As a proud owner of a DP I recommend it for you as well. I've worn my DP for Halloween ever since I've been dressing as Indiana Jones. I've been through a few DPs as my head grew but as a once a year hat it is just fine. There are several places to get DPs and all of them should be about $35-40 dollars.

And I know you said you wont wear the hat much, but the Akruba is not a bad consideration if you think you may be Indy for halloween for years to come.

My Dorfmans date way back, but they definitely look good enough to wear once or even a few times as part of a Halloween costume. Unless they've changed their look drastically in recent years, for your requirements, you can't go far wrong at that price.

I have to say that this thread brings tears to my eyes. Were else has an entire thread turned into a recommendation for a Dorfman Pacific? See, folks, there is an appropriate hat for everything in every budget!

EBay is loaded with DP's (they just say they are licensed, no brand usually), so you might get a good price there.

A second hand Miller wouldn't be bad, either.

Don't forget the original "official" Stetsons. Either wool or fur felt, can be found on eBay with a good deal here and there.

Can I at least get you to look at The Akubra Federation? Please!

By the way, welcome to the madness. You came for the gear, you'll stay for the people.

Ren, there's no argument that the Akubra is a far superior hat, but considering he never plans to wear it past Halloween, it'd be a shame to see a good hat like that go unworn. But for a mere 30 or 40 bucks, the DP really fits the bill on this one.

But, what if this new member really digs the Vintage Lid? Then they're going to want a better one. Once you go down the vintage path... forever will it dominate your destiny... as it did Michelson's Apprentice.

Thank you very much everyone for the help..I do believe the Dorfman will be perfect...after that I just need the bullwip....

ZTMario...what size is your DP?
I'm thinking a small or medium will fit..I do have a small head.
Man I'd so love to plop down the money for the real thing, but I'm thin and the last time I wore a hat that size people thought a lamp shade was walking down the street!

the dorfman's a large. but if you measured your head right, it'll fit, because I'm a 23" also, and it fits just fine. I took the tags and pin off, but I still have them so they're yours if you want em. PM me if you're interested.
