What's in your... Mark VII?

Post by Mountaineer Lasher »

Been a while since we had one of these (and by that, I mean there isn't one on the first page of this particular forum), so I thought I'd start one back up. Besides, the stuff we carry tends to change periodically anyway. So here goes.

In my Mark VII, I've got:

Kodak EasyShare C875 digital camera
1 box Diamond strike anywhere matches
1 pocket squared Moleskine notebook
1 Sharpie Twin-Tip marker
1 Fisher space pen ("military" black version)
1 0.5mm Pentel P205 mechanical pencil
1 Lonely Planet Korean phrasebook
1 Rite-in-the-Rain all-weather notebook
1 unexploded ordnance procedures handout
1 9-line medivac request form
1 guide map of the Seoul Metro
1 old Swiss Army Champ
clipped to the outside "O" ring on the left side of the bag is an Inova white LED flashlight

I had mine out last night to install my new Keppler strap, and found only a cloth bag, a camper's medical kit, and my PBG Raiders brush.

The rest I keep empty to place what ever I need it for on any particular trip.

I don't technically have one yet, I'm looking to acquire one soon, but right now I've got a canvas ammo bag that looks very similar to the MkVII with a leather strap I found lying around my house (we never throw out anything). In it I carry:

My work-in-progress hand drawn Grail diary
A bag containing all the inserts
About 90 sheets of carbon paper
Printed copies of all of the picture pages in the diary
Some leftover cardstock
A ruler
Scotch tape
Scissors
Gauze
A pencil
Several pens
A pen tip sharpie marker
And the remaining elastic for the journals I have yet to make (I really enjoyed binding my grail diary and I plan on making many more journals in the same way)

This will probably all transfer over to my MkVII, unless I finish the diary before it comes in the mail.

My WPG repro Mark VII is used daily. I have in it:
0.5 liter water bottle,
Olympus XA camera and film with A16 flash
1 pr. reading glasses
1AA Mini Mag flashight
1 pen
2 Challenge Coins
Credit card case
2 Wallet size photo holders of my kids
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
a roll of stamps
checkbook
Passport
James Bond (Casino Royale) sunglasses in case
Case for computer glasses (which I'm wearing right now)
rarely used set of keys, so I only carry two on the keyring in my pocket
Same keyring also holds an small emergency CPR mask
1 small box matches
eye glass cleaning solution spray bottle
eye glass cleaning cloth
1 box Altoids mints
2 pill boxes for vitamins and supplements
1 pirate pill box for Rx meds (one day emergency supply)
Blank Raiders journal that my dog chewed up.

In my pants pocket, I wear the pocket knife daily.

Next I'm planning t get my prescription in the Saville Row Indy glasses and make room for those in the bag, along with the clover lighter once I learn how to fill it, and maybe my Indy gloves, which are getting naturally distressed with yard work around the house.
