Tawny Fawn Federation

Post by Fatdutchman »

Well, long time, no see... I haven't been here in a while.

I just got my replacement size 57 Tawny Fawn Federation (which I had to wait a few weeks for, since they were out of stock). This one replaced the 58 which was just too big. This one also is a tad too large, but not unbearably so. I think it will wear in nicely. When I got the hat, it was kinda dented up, but that's no problem. The block shape is MUCH better than was my bell-bottom size 58 that I posted here. This one still has just a bit of the flare out on the right hand side, but I think I can work that out. I haven't started really shaping the hat yet, other than to quickly knock a crease and two dents in it just to see how I think it will do, and I think it will do nicely.

The Tawny fawn color of this hat is rather lighter than my Squatter from David Morgan (by the way, the new "explorer" hat from him appears to be a Squatter/Bushman that the brim was cut down on...but you know, as soon as I got my squatter I immediately thought that it would make a most excellent Indy hat...better than the Federation). The lighter color is fine with me. I guess I can't have all my hats the same color!

I'll get photos up after I get this sucker steamed in.

I've been curious about the Tawny Fawn color for years, always hoping that someone would order one so I could see what it looked like "in real life". I'll be looking forward to those pics, Dutchman.

well, I got 'er pretty well shaped to my satisfaction. Of course, I would like for it to be about a quarter inch or so shorter, but it is a Federation, and tall is what you get. The color in the photos is pretty well correct, though it is a "richer" color than it looks in the pictures. It is definitely lighter than my "Tawny Fawn" Squatter, which is much more brown. I am convinced that the Squatter (or the Bushman, which I don't have one of yet....) will make a better Indy hat than will the Federation. David Morgan's new Explorer shows promise, I think.

At any rate, without further adieu...

Excellent hat!! I love the color. Your bash looks fantastic!! One of the best that I have seen on a Federation, or any other hat for that matter. I don't know how you happened onto a Fed with such straight sides. It looks like mine after Steve re blocked it.
Great job on the pics, as well.
