Indy Fedora Alternatives

Just got to thinking....

When browsing outdoor apparel catalogues and sporting goods stores, most frequently contain various types of brimmed hats. Some wool, some canvas, others types of cotton duck and oilcloth.

Does anyone ever wear any of these types of hats, perhaps as an alternative at times?

I wear cotton boonie caps when training at work. You can roll it up when you're not wearing it and stick it in yer side pocket.

I also wear the cotton floppy boonie hat while training at work. They work well with ear protection while on the shooting range. I sometimes wear a baseball cap while jogging.

If I'm not wearing my fedora, I'm either not wearing a hat, or wearing one of my dad's old boonies or patrol caps.

EDIT: And if it's during the winter, I sometimes wear my Soviet "Bolshivik" faux fur cap.

i have a prince of wales check paper boy hat that looks rather dashing with a wested...(when reading 'rather dashing', be sure to use an english accent for the effect i want)

Sometimes I throw on a ball cap (almost never, though) or a Kangol driving cap... at least I think that's what they are called.

Good input folks. My first job as a teenager was working part time at an Army-Navy Surplus store and ever since that time, I've been a big fan of both the Boonie Caps and the Patrol Caps.

However, when I initially posted this thread, I was envisioning something more like this:

It just seems like you run across hats like this and close to it in outdoor stores and catalogues all the time. Does anyone fancy anything like that as an alternative or do most lean towards regular or sole use of the classic Indy Fedora?[/url]

Hey Chewie, you can come hide out at my place. I wear 'em too, but mostly because I don't have my fedora yet. Though it has been since I joined the Army that I find myself looking okay in ball caps (probably because I got use to wearing the patrol cap).

Oh......well, on camping trips, I'd wear my Boy Scouts "Adventure" hat (that's what the style is called.....or it was when I bought the hat) It's similar to that.
