Just Ordered: Flightsuits Expedition

Post by AppalachiaJones »

Well, I did it. I just ordered my first flightsuits expedition jacket. Size 38R, my regular suit coat size, in seal brown goatskin. I'm pretty excited but I always get a little knot in my stomach when I spend a large chunk of money at once like that. Either way, I'm looking forward to it, it sounds like something I'll be very pleased with. At some point, I plan on ordering a Wested, simply because they made the original, but the reviews I've read on here about the G&B/FS Expo really pushed me in that direction. I know there are those who love there Wested jackets but from the sound of it, the FS will suit my needs for now. Now the wait begins...

I'd love to order one too. But my government wants me to pay another $120 in tax on top of purchase price.

Cheers - CM

That's insane...is that resulting from some type of customs tax or import duty?

I'm pleased to hear that and eagerly awaiting the arrival of my jacket.

I may be off here but, if memory serves, I think that a while back the Flightsuits jacket was considered to be the most screen accurate Raiders jackets one could get. However, I also know that many advancements have been made over the last few years as far as patterns and custom work. Is the consensus still that the FS jacket is a screen accutate Raiders?

I've seen you say this several times in threads and it seems to be a pet peeve of yours but, did you know, I didn't pay a cent in duties on my Wested when I bought it...? I don't know how but, seriously, I wasn't charged at all.

The Expedition is a great jacket. You might want to specify that you want the “light seal”, if you want a color close to Raiders. I believe that their default color is the dark seal. Cheers

I am extremely pleased with my FS Expo goatskin. Great fit and finish, and built to last! A bit pricey for sure;just wait till you get it!! You can see why. raider 57

Ask if they'll mark it as a 'gift'. Usually works.

I really appreciate all the encouragement folks. I'm definitely looking forward to the arrival of this jacket.

In the meantime, what is the general consensus now on the screen accuracy of this jacket?

Yes, awesome jacket...worth every penny. I have an Expedition in the dark-brown goatskin.

To answer your question in a nutshell, yes it's very authentic based on Terry Leonard's stunt jacket used during the truck chase scene at the end of Raiders.

Did they allow you to custom order, or just off the rack?

Well folks, my goatskin Expedtion Jacket arrived safe and sound today from G&B. Upon opening it, I was quite pleased with my findings. I was a little concerned by the stiffness that it seemed to have right out of the bag but after wearing the jacket for only a few minutes, it started to loosen up considerably. All in all it looks great. Definitely a great lightweight but tough and durable feeling jacket. Thanks to everyone who recommended this.

I'd like to get some pics of it before I treat it with Pecards...that should be on the agenda tomorrow. Once I get some pics, I'll post 'em.

Well, unfortunately, my digital camera's on the fritz...i.e. Broken. Unfrotunately pics will be delayed.

Regardless though, I just want to express how truly pleased I am with this jacket. I wore it for a while around the house (too hot to wear it outside), and driving on a day trip that I went on today (in order to break it in) and I have to say this truly is a wonderful jacket. It seems as though the more I wear it, the more it molds itself to the shape of my body. Amazing.

The leather itself is great also. Soft and supple yet tough and durable. Everything one could want in an Indy Jacket. I think this is one of those things that I will appreciate more and more each day. Truly an amazing piece of work.

Not to mention, I even received a follow-up call from G&B asking if I received the jacket and if I was pleased. What a great company and a great product.

Ok, as promised, here are some pics of my new Flightsuits Expedition in Brown Goatskin after a few days of breaking in by wearing it while driving it around the house and driving. It has also been treated with Pecards Jell once, however, that did not seem to affect the appearance one way or another.

EDIT: Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to reduce the size the of images for posting on here. So, to view the jacket, you'll have to go to this link:

That's just not a fair comparrison since the FS is VERY different in many ways from the jacket Leonard wore. However, the FS is a very nice jakcet and a great Indy jacket to be sure. I've recently been converted since seeing G-Mann's older FS which is completely worn in and looking oh, so sweet. I wish they'd bring the zipper down to the bottom of the jacket, but that's for a different post, I guess. I can also make out that they keep moving the collar back farther from the middle of the storm flap. What happened with that?

IndyJones, the number of pics is fine, as is the link to the album. However, if you could reduce the size of the posted images to no more than 640 pixels wide (as mentioned in the rules section) that would be great. Thanks! Nice jacket, too!
