I can still see remnants of this sweat stain on my hat. I think it's a "salt stain" now, like what Indy had on the ribbon of his SOC hat. Will this permanently discolor the felt, or will it come out the next time the hat gets wet?
hmmm...I would imagine it will come out the next time the hat gets wet...if not, I'm almost positive it will come out the next time you get it cleaned. :junior: -IJ
If it's a real good, soaked in stain, water may help clean it up some, but it may require a professional hat cleaning at that point. I have a few hats that I've sweat profusely in to where it came through the hat and ribbon. Dunking it in the sink directly thereafter helped (mind you, do this at your own risk since it's your hat abnd not mine) but depending on the quality, type, and color of the felt, it might take a true clean and reblock to get it completely out.
If I were you I would take a wet wash clothe and scrub it out, that what I do with my leather cowboy hat and leather is far more difficult to wash then felt.
Ok, so this CAN be gotten out? I was afraid the stain would be permanent. I had been meaning to send my AB off to Steve for a re-block as soon as I got my rabbit AB in the mail, since it's now survived two Comic Conventions and more than a year without a reblock/refurb.
Sweat stains are easily removed with Naptha. Think I spelled that right. Same chemcal as the old lighter fluid used in those old Zippo lighters. Fedora
Naptha! That's what I was trying to remember. Glad you chimed in, Steve. Besides, I think everyone else would've though I was crazy if I had mentioned using something so flamable.
Would Naptha take the sweat stain in a cotton hat?
If any one is considering using Naptha, be sure to keep away from any flame, spark, or heat source and use it is a well ventilated area. It is very flammable.
