Best place for a Re-Block

Post by IndyFan89 »

Ok so AB is booked solid so that is out of the qeustion. Where else could i get a good re-block. I need a new liner, sweat band, screen accurate ribbon, block, and bash.

Where should i send my fed. This is my only fed right now so it's my pearl. Price isn't the issue it's the quallity of craftsmenship.

HELP!!!!

PS
Someone recomended Art Fawcett to me. What is the best way to get ahold of him and can he get me the screen accuracy i need. (since i'm a screen accurate nazi thanks to Indiana G  )

Jimmy P is an option. We've been told, the contact issues are being resolved.

I emailed him a while ago about getting a liner for one of my old hats, and didn't have much luck, but I remain hopeful he will reply.

EDIT: - You could PM Cowboy and get hold of his hatter - this Wolf's Hattery dude he was talking about. No harm in asking him, at least. He did a nice job on Cowboy's lid.

Dave does do re-blocks as I understand. I am going to offer to help him get on the web, so that will help speed things up. Anyone who wants his contact info, send me a pm. Regards, COWBOY

I'm going to be sending one of my lids to Optimo relatively soon. Not really for indy-fying a vintage lid, but just getting it into wearable condition. $85 and I get everything new that needs replacing.

If you aren't into screen accuracy I personally like Greeley Hat Works.

Try Marc. Or, failing that, there's always Dave Brown, in Rochester, NY. :junior: -IJ

If it is a regular fed, I wouldn't spend more money than you paid for it just to get it reblocked. I don't think it is a job that would take Optimo or some other high end hatter to do it.

Well you could change the ribbon yourself... and learn something about hatmaking while doing it! :)

Art at Vintage Silhouettes is a master, no doubt. He has some great blocks that are fairly close to an Indy shape. Just ask for a straight sided block. I've had nothing but great experiences with Art.

I also hear Optimo is very good and reliable, and I plan to give them a try sometime.

So the SA nazi camp is different from the regular SA camp, I assume?

Don't worry, I'm taking a break from lifting wallets for a while. Indy89, what kind of hat are you looking to reblock? Is it a Federation, or are you using "fed" as a generic term? I think Steve may have begun only reblocking ABs now because of his workload, though I'd confirm that with him. I've seen a number of Art's hats, though (thanks, Chewie) and can tell you he does some good work, though you've been presented with a lot of good options.

Art generally doesn't do Indy hats, but he has at least one block that's close. I'd recommend getting an open crown and doing your own Indy bash, but tell him you want the same block he used on Not-Bogart13's Blue Smoke fedora. It's a great block. Contact him through his website (see Alan's post above).

Here's a picture of the hat mentioned. Note, it does not have the dimensional cut brim.;
