When?

Post by Harrison_Davies »

Hi,

When apart from Indy in LC did Indy first obtain and use a whip?

Was it Young Indy Chronicles or Raiders?

Help greatly appreciated.

Sean Patrick Flannery briefly used an old beat up swivel handled looking bullwhip in part two of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles: The Curse of the Jackal which I believe was set in March 1916

He was fighting a grave robbing mercenary named Demetrius who was played by Vic Tablian, who was also in Radiers of The Lost Ark playing Barranca & the CairoMonkey Man.

Its been a few years since I seen this episode but If I recall the fight, Young Indy gets backed into a corner of a ammo depot/storage room, the bullwhip is hanging on a storage shelf next to him. He picks it up, pauses a moment rubbing the scar on his chin. Then whips a couple times at Demetrius finally wraps it around, pulling it to spin him away or something like that.

Perfect, means I can introduce the whip again at age 20 for a project I'm working on.

Thanks,

In one of the first Indy novels he doesn't have the whip, but part way through he decides that he could have used it in situation XYZ to get out of a predicament, so thereafter he kept one with him.

Sorry it's vague, but it was last spring when I re-read them.

In the novel ROTA, I think it writes that Indy saw a circus performer when he was young and was mesmerized by the performance.

Thanks again.

I think I'm safe introducing the whip at 20 years old

Just did some quick scanning, and it appears (according to the novels...) that he didn't start regularly using the whip until 1923-24 (or so), while finishing college. So that would put him right around the 21-22 year old mark. :)

But those are the novels after all. Kind of an "expanded universe" kind of thing.

Actually, that's at the 24-25 year mark (he was born in 1899, remember?)

You said "expanded universe". Me thinks I just caught a Star Wars fan... (not that they're that uncommon around these parts) :D

Be sure to wash your hands. Catching those can be contagious. (and expensive!)
