That's a nice looking hat, though! It looks good on you. It's all the better that your hatter is nearby! Keep in mind, though, that the Beaver Brand hats are beaver blends and not full, 100% beaver hats. The system of using XXXXX to notate beaver content used to mean something decades ago, but now it's a pretty useless indicator since every other hatter makes up their own definition of the "X" system. If it were a 100% beaver hat, I can guarantee you would've paid a LOT more than $175 for it! Still, I've owned several Beaver Brand hats and have been very pleased with them. They are fine hats and should last a long time. Well done!
Strange that everone jumps on about his 8x not being beaver when he originally stated that it was in fact rabbit.. Looks to me as though it is a nice hat. I would certainly consider if I did not have an AB on order.

Thanks for the comments, but I edited my original post. The hat band says 8XXXXXXXX Beaver, but I was corrected by Several as you can see from above and Beaver Hat's directly. Oh well, good thing this is only a hobby cause I would be BK if not.... Best Regards Friend...Cowboy

BTW---Everyone should get a WOLF'S HATTERY RAIDERS FEDORA for their own collection. It is a GREAT hat and at a great price too.

I like it, Cowboy! The brim looks a tad wide for your face (or maybe that's just for my taste), and the center dent looks a bit wide, but otherwise, it's neat, and if you like it, well that's all that matters!

I personally like the wider brim. I don't think it is really that wide though, at least not to me.

I am willing to bet a Big Larry on it that WOLLF'S HATTERY makes the RAIDERS FEDORA in Black.

Luck you, I work one more week and then I am off for 10.....Hmmm, what to do then :?: I am getting a new cigar crib for my upcomming trip and of course no cigar case should be empty, so it will be KUBA Kuba and some Partagas Blacks

It is nice that while talking about the WOLF'S HATTERY RAIDERS FEDORA, everyone here in the fedora section is so good natured! Not like the negative vibe in the jacket section....

Cowboy... The new lid looks great and it is nice to find a local hat maker willing to work with you on custom specs!

Yeah, we know... It is all in fun! :)

It is just nice that we have so many options in Hats, jackets, whips, etc. It seems that each hat manufactuer (or jacket for that matter) seems to fit a particular film or scene's look. I just got an AB and it is dead on raiders, where as my Akruba really looks great in the TOD rope bridge scene style. Cowboy's WOLF'S HATTERY RAIDERS FEDORA seems like it would be great at the Raiders style or if bashed a little looser, a great LC hat.

Plus the great thing about having so many options in IndyGear is that like Art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Even when 'smilies' are attached, it's a fine line between comedy and bashing, especially when a response is made to a post that has  included in the thread.

In this case, it came across as bashing. Apparently the Scary COW adm. guy agreed (and no, I am NOT one of the Scary Cow adm. guys.)

If it's from Beaver brand, it's more than likely identical in thickness to a Keppler.

The difference I see is that Lee advertises his to be a 6x at $140, and Cowboy's Wolf version is an 8x at $175. As we learned, the 'x' factor really means nothing now, so it's hard to determine what is what....but I'd say the difference would be minimal, and really only determined by a hatmaker.

I believe you own(ed) PBs, Kepplers and Camptowns. How would you compare the felt thickness of each brand (thickest/most substantial, to least)?

That's true. The Camptown seems a bit heavier than the Keppler or Beaver brand, but the finish is better due to more beaver felt content.

No, the Camptown felt is Winchester felt now.

Winchester? Does that mean if you don't put on safe before you put it on yer head it might go off?
Seriously though there can't be many people making hat bodies can there? So I would think a lot of the vendors start with similar bodies except for maybe adventurebilt beaver.

AB is also Winchester felt, but 100% beaver, where the others are beaver/rabbit blends. Camptowns are made from the mid weight Winchester blend.

I don't know where Beaver Brand sources their felt cones, but I HAVE heard it's NOT from Winchester.

I finally found out they do own that building, but do their business from the small cinder block building on the east side of that wreck. They're live, well, and cranking out batch lots of felt cones every weekday.

Michaelson, where would one get one of these hat bodys? Winchester or beaver brand so you could tinker with it?
I've got the scientific hat maker book now and may get a block and such but don't have any spare hats to experiment on. (I'm not counting the wool dorfman as a possibilty)

From what I'm told, your only chance to get hold of one would be if a hat maker who has a contract with them would be willing to sell you one. Winchester is finally selling smaller lots than they used to, but they will not sell single items at all.

They sell bulk, and are pretty picky who they sell to.

I talked to Dave Wolf this morning, and he is most definitely willing to build hats for anyone who would like one. He is also very interested in Re-Blocks as well. I am helping get him set up for the web, etc-so he should be on line very soon. In the mean time, PM to me will get you his number.

Nope, you're not smoking a thing, Cowboy...well, at least not in THAT way. (grins)

His price is right there with everyone else. Like I said yesterday (somewhere :-k ), Lee Keppler's Beaverbrand 6x is cataloged at $140 (guessing that this is still correct on his website), and Wolf is pricing his custom Beaverbrand 8x at $170, so he's right there with the rest of the pack.

Undoubtably fair. Ten less than I paid for my PB! What kind of emblem is in the hat? With a name like wolf I'm picturing something pretty cool. Or maybe I'm just thinking of that beer redwolf!
