Hat cleaning question.

Post by Indiana Croft »

My AB beaver looks like it might need just a little cleaning. Now when I pick it up I try not to by the pinch but I try to pick up by a three point aproach, meaning I lightly grab the top crease area's, my thumb is on the upper front and my index and middle finger are on top and the last to digits are on the right side bash area.
See the below pic.

Now over the years it kinda looks like the oils from my hand may have transfered and dirt/grime has collected, the below pic sorta shows it. It's in the upper corners of the fron pinch.

and in this shot it's the front pinch.

When I was up north last weekend I went into Arron hat shot and he sold me Scout felt hat cleaner for dark colors. Has anyone tried this?, I'll try it on my Stetson as this hat is trashed.
Please give me any advice, Idon't want to destroy my prize possesion.

croft...i don't see anything pronounced as far as staining. strider had a sweat stain question last week and i believe the conclusion was to get it professionally cleaned or to use that naptha (lighter fluid) stuff to try to remove stains....i'd read the thread before trying anything.

as far as i see (maybe its the pic) but you're hat looks fine....plus...why not leave the character marks as is?.......

On another thread I think fedora mentioned something called naptha for cleaning sweat stains. Maybe that would work for this also.?.

I'll look into this naptha stuff. I know that the pic doesn't do it justice, there just looks like theres ome kinda stuff there. Maybe it's just me and I'm being to critical of my lid.
We'll see.

I don't see it either. But I agree with letting it have character. It shows its not a trailer queen! Sorry for the car comparison, been doing that a lot today
