Spot on. It is a 6 inch crown, 2 5/8 - 2 1/2 PB. I think someone was a bit "brim happy" when trimming that day. But, for a 1/2 price E-Bay purchase, I could not pass up the deal.

Sorry I have lapsed on this thread so long. I've been very busy getting my world all tied up before going to the Summit. Anyway, on to the collection. It's not quite everything... the sun moved and glared off the cars too much before I got to the cheap bangers.

Start with my Indy Hats- left to right; PB Straw, AB, JPD, Federation, and a reblocked Federation.

My Art Fawcett VS Collection;

From left to right - A Dobbs milan straw, a modified Stetson Downs, a gray and a black Federation, and a Campdraft.

If anybody wants a closer look at a particular one, let me know. I know the shadows are a pain, but it was the only place I had good light at all.

If your camera has a flash, you coudl have used infill flash, which should have educed the shadows.

Nice hat collection...very jealous.

I've had that camera for almost 2 years, and I'm still not familiar with everything it does and how. I couldn't even figure out how to shut off the flash until Gater did it by accident at last years Finger Lakes Summit! Not to mention, it never even occurred to me to... do whatever it was you said.

What camera is it? Between Harrison and me (both photogs), we should be able to figure out how to get your camera to do fill-in flash. It's something most digital compacts do as standard.

It's a FujiFilm FinePix A210. I was looking for a cheapy to take ebay photos and I grabbed this one. It was even the display model! Does the job, though!

My reasoning is, Marc has had 2 different types of felt. The first hat I bought was from the first batch. My second one was from his second batch and my third hat has his new roo hide sweatband. All three have a few different specs too.

Also the fact that I just really like Marc's work, felt and block shape.

Now that his wait time is almost 7 months, I'm glad I have these 3. 4 if you count the Gray one

I've had a look at your manual, and if you have a look at page 28, under "forced flash" that might do the trick in those sorts of photos in the future. It seems to be intended for backlit situations.

Thanks G-Mann. I assume the new felt is better? How is the roo hide sweatband? Do you notice a difference? Here is a question for you. I just ordered my first AB from Steve. I am trying to decide on the look I want. Can't say I am really sure how to decide that. Steve says the Idol grab is very popular. I definately want the raiders look and I saw a post elsewhere on COW that Steve has a generic raiders look. And the idea of a turn on a hat. I know this makes it screen accurate but does it feel wierd on your had - like it is not sitting straight? Does this basically mean when you wear a turned hat that when someone looks at you headon the crease in the front of the hat points to one side? Why would anyone turn a hat in the first place? Style only or is this a functional thing? Perhaps there is a thread on this somewhere on COW but just wondering what your personal thoughts were.

And Chewie. All I can say is wow. I am guessing you have a mortgage on all those hats?

When you turn a hat, you take an open crown hat and put it on your head and then turn it an inch or so to the right, then you put the bash in the hat with the front pinch in the middle of your forehead. So, when you wear the hat, it is actually sitting on your head slightly off center, but the bash is centered so it looks like it is on your head properly.

Having the hat turned, causes the brim to warp in a really cool way, the way that the Raiders hat did. This is the only way to get a brim to look like that. With lesser quality hats, it may not fit very comfortably. With an AB beaver, the hat molds itself to your head so well, that you will NEVER be able to tell from the feel of it, that it is sitting slightly off center on your head. Wearing it, you will never be aware that it is even turned, but it will look soooooooooooooo cool.

I found all of this very hard to believe, but I trusted Fedora when he told me this and tried a turned hat. I now have two turned ABs and I love them. If you get a Raiders of the Lost Ark fedora, you've got to get the turn. Trust me.

Pretty much all of my "free spending money" for the last few years has gone into hats. I figure, do it now, before I have a wife and kids to support!

I have a small collection- The brown fedora in the middle is the closest I have to an even remotely Indy-esque hat. I've tried to bash it a few times but the felt is so soft it won't hold the shape- After reading this thread I now find that I MUST have an Akubra Fed...
If anyone has a 7 1/8 to trade or part trade for a couple of my fedoras let me know

Entire collection

The Fedora and Rancher style- the two on the bottom left are vintage Resistal, the straw campaign (probably Forest Ranger) and Pith Helmet are vintage as well. The rest are modern:

Hey Mark. I have always been a fan of the military caps. Actually waiting for one from US Wings right now (back ordered apparently). Where did you get all of yours. The white captains looking cap. where is that one from. Very nice. ALso a big fan of the pith helmet. Is yours the USMC one? What a collection. Do you wear most of these?

Mostly e-bay- some of the best are just thrift store finds that I've held on to since the '80's...
Tha white hat is a vintage Bancroft USGC petty officers hat, I probably wear that more than the Fedoras these days for some reason.
I believe the pith helmet is WWII dated but I'll have to look at it and refresh my memory. I don't know if it's USMC or Army.

Not really- usually I'm riding my sidecar bike or driving my '64 bonneville, so it probably just blends in...

Yeah there are certain things that I wear that my female friends wince at. I have this great waist hiking pack that I wear when I travel. The woman I was seeing at the time absolutely hated it. She said it would have to go. Let me just say I still use that bag - make your own conclusions...

Well, since I've only got one fedora, and other people posted non-fedora pics....here are all my non-baseball hats. I'm aware the pictures aren't the best out there. I used my cruddy digital camera.

top row, left to right: ACU boonie, Woodland boonie, "Chocolate chip" desert boonie, Woodland Patrol cap, Desert boonie.
Bottom row, l-to-r: Authentic Soviet faux fur hat, Boy Scout "Adventure" hat, modified Mayser fedora, that type of hat stereotypically associated with Victorian London street urchins, typical Bavarian hat (with hatpins)

My favorite four.

Once again, I know they aren't the best photos. I did my best with what I had.
