The 'elusive' Temple of Doom jacket - let's nail the specs!

Post by ob1al »

This thread is principally a continuation of this one: viewtopic.php?t=22939&highlight=

I thought it would be very useful to study the 'elusive' Temple of Doom jacket - not the left-over (Wested) Raiders jackets used in TofD, but rather the other jackets from Cooper (also believed by some to be from an unknown 'French' company).

According to information posted in the originating thread (above), the Raiders jackets were most probably used in the studio shots; therefore I guess we are specifically talking about the jackets that were used on location in Sri Lanka.

On the preceding thread, Agent5 noted:
There are also other variations that separate it from the Raiders jacket, besides the length. The side vents are closed up to about 2" from the bottom of the jacket, the yoke is alot larger than the Raiders jacket as well, extending down an extra 2-3". The strap buckles are also different and neither D-rings or the black rectangular ones and the pockets are much, much smaller. To date, I've never seen a TOD jacket exactly as it appeared on screen.

To me, the jacket is very much the Raiders jacket except with d-rings and smaller and more squared patch pockets...
Please post your screengrabs and information here - let's try to pin down the specs on this, possibly the least studied, Indy jacket.

Regards,

Al

Excellent - there is some great info there. :D

If anyone has anything to add to the info presented in those older threads, please keep it coming!

Tiny, *tiny* pockets...

Abnormally tiny pockets...

Those tiny pockets are key for the ToD look...

Has any vendor (Wested, Cooper etc) ever produced a jacket with pocket's as small as that? Possibly as a custom job? :?:

I remember seeing pictures of (I think) a Todd's jacket on Indygear a couple of months ago which had tiny pockets as well...

Just did a search, and it seems I was right.

viewtopic.php?t=20372

The pictures have been taken down, but here are some quotes from that thread that I agree with (regarding the ToD jacket in general)
Strider wrote:I suppose I am going to be the sole detractor on this one. I think those pockets are comically small.
PLATON wrote:The pockets look a little small... and the sleeves a little long for my taste.

I did this a while back for kicks. I don't think I posted it here out of fear of the wrath that was cast upon me for doing the Raiders specs.

I hope the link works. If not, let me know and I'll paste it up.

Where the heck have I been..how come I missed these threads??

Too much time spent in 'Props' no doubt.

Thanks for that Indiana G.

Agent5 - that's a great read http://filmjackets.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7 , which pretty much covers all of the information I was hoping to learn from this thread - many thanks. :)

No offense to anyone that likes the Temple jacket, but the small pockets look funny to me.

no offense taken. the small pockets are very, very impractical.....about as practical as a leather jacket in the jungle. good thing indy has a satchel bag to carry stuff in

I like the smaller pockets myself. I don't carry much around with me in a jacket anyway. The larger pockets on some of the Westeds look bloody awful to me. I guess guys are often divided like this... guys who like em big and guys who don't.

Cheers - CM

As long as I can stuff my gloves or hands inside the handwarmers I don't care how small the pockets are, but the giant pockets look ridiculous.
