I have noticed that the shape of the Federations vary a little bit, depending upon the hat size. My size 58's always were better suited for TLC look, but Michaelsons's size 59 was really good for the Raiders look. So, if you wear a 59, my experience tells me you will be very well pleased. I can't vouch for the other sizes that have the better, less tapered blockshape. Fedora

Re: Gonna get a FED DELUXE
There was another thread where it was said the Fed Deluxe is lighter in color. I think I am going to order a Fed but I am still not sure which one to get either.HANSOLOJONES wrote:Hi Guys.
I have read countless threads on this, But I though I would try and get a fresh perspective . OK, I have a regular Fed. Love it. Got an AB on order. Thinking about getting a Fed Delux...... How much closer is the Fed Delux in accuracy to the Raiders hat. I want something as close as possible until I get the grail Hat(The AB). Federation hats only please. How close is the Fed Deluxes color?? Again the regular Fed is awesome, But want to get that one step closer. Is the Fed Deluxe it??
Thanks Guys,
HSJ.
I was just in London last week and got to meet Noel Howard, Peter at Wested and also went to HJ's to try on a Poet. I was unimpressed by the size of the brim and just the general look and fit. Todd's says their HJ's are 'different' though made by same mfr, but unfortunately I have a rather large head, and the size 63 was a pretty good fit, but the HJ brim looked way undersized. Todd's doesn't carry the HJ in 63.
So that doesn't leave me with a lot of choices, given that the wait for an AB/AB Dlx is so far out.
So back to the Fed, I'd love to see some really detailed side by side pictures of the Fed and Fed Dlx.

Good luck with the hat, HANSOLOJONES!
As for the color, I don't think the fed deluxe actually has ANY of the reddish tint that shows up in some pictures, it is a very neutral brown color in person. But in person, I think the regular fed is a little too dark, much like a dark chocolate color, with too much of a green-gray tint for my taste.

Size 58? Cos I just got an email telling me they are out of stock in that size, and will be able to find out when they are due when Akubra re-opens their factory next Monday.ANZAC_1915 wrote:I ordered a Fed Dlx too.
Bit annoying - I'd have liked to know that before ordering, because it may have affected my decision between this and other hats, but still, I'll just wait and see...

Nope, a "small-ish" 64.fatwoul wrote:Size 58? Cos I just got an email telling me they are out of stock in that size, and will be able to find out when they are due when Akubra re-opens their factory next Monday.ANZAC_1915 wrote:I ordered a Fed Dlx too.

Yeah, not so many 64's around. The 64 is a touch loose, not so much with the foam insert, hopefully it will shrink slightly too. I haven't bashed it yet (so no pics) - still trying to figure out if I should swap it for a 63.fatwoul wrote:Are there a lot of 64s around? This forum should include "hat size" in the member profiles. That way you could use the memberlist to list people with the same size as you.
Fed deluxe is nicely made for the price though, like the color too.
Oh, taper in 64 is there, but very slight.
Fed 62's
Being a lifelong member of the fathead club, I own a couple of 62 Fed Deluxes and can vouch for a "no taper" status. One is about 5 years old and one is just about a year. The older one has a bit of reverse taper. Great hats.
