Indy IV Satchel (Not Vendor Related!)
Out of curiousity, do you all suppose that the MkVIIs in Indy IV will be actual, vintage satchels? Or are they more likely to be replicas? I'd personally be surprised if they were to be vintage MKVIIs, considering that Indy is suppose to be all about history, and if they used vintage MKVIIs, the crew would be in effect destroying a part of history, no matter how small!
Any guesses?

I don't see why they couldn't use real bags. It's been stated before that there were millions of these bags made, so it means that there are still plenty of these bags floating about. If it's cheaper for them to get the real thing as opposed to creating new ones, I bet they'd be happy to go the cheaper route.

Here's another satchel related item for all those interested in Indy IV gear...
That buckle on the satchel's strap looks unique to Indy IV, as it's certainly not something that I've seen in any of the other Indy movies, nor are any of the current vendors (to my knowledge) offering this buckle.
It looks like it has two parts to it (or maybe just a V shaped single piece), and is that a roller on it?

To me, it seems like the V-shaped design, coupled with a roller, would make the strap much more prone to slipping than previous designs. Is it presumptuous to believe that there is a good reason for the change, or is it change for the sake of change, like say press studs and larger collar on the LC jacket?

I'm guessing that since they figured that not too many people would pay attention to something as tiny as the buckle, they went with what was easily available, instead of trying to find an exact replica of one used in the previous films.
And didn't they say that the reason for the press studs and the larger collar was because they lost the original designs for the LC jacket, only to find it afterwards?

Horizontal grooves, eh? Now you're gettin' nasty!
Yeah, they leather does look fairly wrinkled. I've just fitted a strap to my MkVII which has a similar consistency, in fact:
The buckle on the Indy IV bag looks similar to mine in that it has the roller, but the Indy IV looks to have flat edges rather than rounded. But it's hard to be certain as the camera can play tricks, as we all know.

If Indygear had been around back then, I suspect a lot of them would have stayed in business!
Seriously, it's always been fine to discuss the Indy IV gear, just not who is MAKING it.
The gas mask bags are vintage MKVII's - a stock item which we all know and love, so saying that Indy is using a MKVII is like saying: Indy is wearing a hat, or a leather jacket...
Regards,
Al

*Mental note to self: Pay more attention in general*
What Al said. Discussing the upcoming gear aswell as "the old gear" is why we are here. No reason to think it wouldn't be allowed, just as long as it doesn't slide into discussing the makers. In good time that info will be known, we just have to wait for it a little while.
We waited for the movie long enough, why not wait just a bit longer to go on discussing the vendors?
In fact I'll start with: Hey, that new Indy IV gear looks mighty fine!
Regards,
Swindiana

Perhaps the part of the MKVII that isn't shown is slanted upwards, with the part being shown slanted downwards, hence giving the illusion of a longer strap? Also notice how the buckle isn't anywhere near being centered on his chest... While I know that the buckle tends to slide while worn, maybe... just maybe...

Oh. Well, I guess my eyesight is worse than I thought......it looked like the bag was sitting the way it usually does in the films.conceited_ape wrote:Agreed. The strap is just right in all likelihood. He'd only just stood up at this point also. My bag usually sits this way after I get up out of a chair.

Its good to see Marion in this one!!! I was hoping that she would be back w/ Indy!
BTW - Speaking of Dukes of Hazzard - You make a good point there. The General Lee was based on a 69' Charger. Although, they did use just as many 68's as 69's...they just altered the back tail panel & front grille (there were a few other minor differences as well). I'm currently restoring my 69' Charger to the General Lee. Another expensive hobby I'm in, lol.
Kind regards,
Captain D

i took that into account....if you move the bag up to level, it doesn't look like the buckle will hit square in the chest as in raiders.Perhaps the part of the MKVII that isn't shown is slanted upwards, with the part being shown slanted downwards, hence giving the illusion of a longer strap? Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I've been an Indy fan al my life. So here goes.Castor Dioscuri wrote:Here's another satchel related item for all those interested in Indy IV gear...

I noticed you guys don't recognize this buckle, but it's actually the same one they used in LC. Just look up the part where he's hanging from his bag strap on the tank.

Why, yes it is. (I think this was discussed in another thread.....or maybe I just also recognized it). The only real difference is this one is upside down.Bullitt wrote:Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I've been an Indy fan al my life. Eh, someone somewhere on some thread said it was upside down. I was just repeating what I read. Then again, the last time I saw it was two months ago.Indiana G wrote:the buckle isn't upside down....she looks right to me, no?
