Im new to Club Obi Wan, therefore the questions im about to ask probably have been covered many times. Plus this will be my first Wested jacket. Anyway, Im getting overwhelmed with how many options, in regards to different hides that there are to pick from.
Starting with the Lambksin
Ive heard that it drapes very well, however its not very durable. Also that this was the hide used in the movies. Is this true? Is it a darker color until it starts to age and distress?
Whats the deal with Predistressed hide?
How does it fit, feel, distress?
Goatskin. Whats the original color. And whats the color as it starts to distress.
Thats it, sorry guys. Please forgive the new kid.

The predistressed is going to be one of the heavier jackets, especially if you slap leather conditioner on it. You don't have to distress it as it comes distressed already. It's nice but it's going to have a stiffer drape than the lamb. Here are some pics of the predistressed:

I've heard the Predistressed that Peter offers now is a bit different though...I think maybe a little darker and a little lighter in weight but don't quote me on that. If that is the case, then it's gotta be a great jacket IMO.

Hi
Ive got the Wested Temple Lambskin and the Wested Raiders Goatskin.
Yes, the lambskin drapes very well.It was dark brown when I bought it, and its still dark brown 18 months later.Regarding wear and tear - it also ages well - however, I found that the leading edge of the cuffs and storm flap quickly became scuffed, and frankly the colour wore off to reveal the underlying hide. This is not a particularly big problem in the context of overall aging/natural distressing which will happen over a longer period. Is it durable? - I think lambskin has a bad wrap in this respect - and its undeserved.Durability has more to to do with the density of the leather (lambskin is relatively very dense), rather than the thickness.
The Goatskin is a ligther shade of brown (compare the light chocalate colour to the dark chocolate colour of the lambskin). Is it durable? Really, its tough as old bootnails - although there is the beginning of a nice patina after about a year of wear, although, very subtle. I found that the stitching on the goatskin was not as precise as the Lambskin, especially, around the collar (not a big problem) but, probably owing to the fact that the Goatskin is so much thicker than the Lambskin and therefore more difficult to work with.
And so,
Lambskin:very light, tough enough, more authentic look.
Goatskin :heavier than above, extremely tough, not quiet the film jacket but close enough.
Just my opinions of course.............good luck.
