Battle of the Bulge

Post by JulianK »

Is it just me but both my Westeds tend to bugle out in the middle of the back panel when worn open. My USW for some reason doesn't do that and its really starting to bother me.

Is the the fact that the Westeds aren't tapered (like I am) or is it something else? Basically I have to cinch the side straps all the way just to get the jacket to drape flat (in profile) but I don't want to have to do that. I'm seriously considering taking it to a tailor for advice but I thought I'd run it past the experts here first.

Would the elastic thing in the panel correct this? Other than that the jackets fit perfectly.

A little advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

My first jacket did this. (With the elastics). I sent it back for correction, got another jacket and the pleats were corrected to this. (Without the elastics). Nice and flat all the way. Not sure exactly what they did, but the second back panel doesn't go all the way out to the sleeves.

Some people aren't bothered by it, some are. I was happy mine could be fixed anyway. ;)

JulianK,
Swindiana, some others, and I discussed this a while back.

Excellent thread. Thanks Ron/Swindy. That explains much. The pleats on my USW are quite a bit shallower than the Westeds and I guess that's why they do this and the USW doesn't.

Makes sense. Even among Westeds, I've noticed a fair amount of variation in the depth of the pleats.
