I am about to purchase my second wested. However the Wested
sizing options have changed since 1999. I didnt specify a jacket
length (regular or long) the first time around. Just my height.
I wear a dress suit jacket size 44 long. When ordering a
wested should i buy a 44 regular or long? The 25" vs 27"
back length difference on the raiders jacket is a bit large.
I am 6'1". Since there is a long option and i am normally
a long i feel pushed to buy long. However all of the measurements
for long seem too big.
thanks for the help!

Have someone take picture of you from the side, with a yard stick or a measuring cloth (what do they call those things?) on your back starting from your collar going down your spine. Wested will be able to see what it is you need. If I can't go to a shop and be measured, I always do this so the person making the garment can see where I measured from and my body style as well. That is the next best thing to going there in person.

I'm 6'2", long arms. For a sport coat, I wear a long size. For my Wested, I ordered a 44 reg, with 26" (i.e. long) sleeves. The 25" back length is just right for the "Raiders" look, which was not really a long jacket. My other jacket, a US Wings is a large-long, and I still had to let the sleeves down another inch to have them be long enough. I think this jacket is just a little too long in the body (but I had to get the long size to get the sleeve length I need). I ended up having the side straps raised on this jacket because the body was too long on me.

Thanks for the input.
After looking at my current raiders and visiting a tailor,
I've gone with a 25.25 back length, 25.25 arm, and 44 regular.
I put in a request for the top of the back panel to be flush with the sleeve
seam as well. My previous jacket had a .5 inch gap on both sides. Hopefully things turn out well.

I just received my new Lambskin - and it will be up for sale in the classifieds section soon . It was going to be my final Wested in the new Authentic lambskin with a few mods (right-handed zipper and slightly tapered back). When I received it and put it on, it looked way too baggy for my build and too long as well - making it look more like a 3/4 length jacket.
What is everone's opinion on the correct length of the jacket? I am short-waisted and would need about 3" cut from the bottom of the standard size 40 to bring the bottom of the jacket 1-2" below my belt.
I was not clear on my specifications to Peter and I am going to order another "final" jacket. This time, I expect to call him to get everything perfect. I will eventually learn. I also need it much tighter. The problem I see, is that taking that much from the length brings the pockets dangerously close to the armpits. I imagine the size of the pockets will have to be modified to look correct...
