Water Bladder

Post by mufflowne »

Not an indy item, though I would think Indy would have one of these.

You remember at the beginning of fifth element, they have water in what appears to be a leather bladder, but it's really more of a sack with water rather than a shaped bladder flask.

Anyone have ANY idea where to look for one of these?

Any other Indy-esque ways to carry water around with you?

Well, Indy does use a water bottle in 'Emperors Tomb', so it's an Indy Gear item of sorts.

I used to own a WWII British army canteen which fit perfectly into the MKVII, similar to the one seen in that game.

As Bink advises, your best bet is to check out local surplus stores, I'm sure you'll find something suitable.

Any WWII canteens would fit with the Indy Style. The US Army used the same canteen design in WWI as they did in WWII, so a WWII canteen could be accurate for Indy. I have a 1918 dated US Canteen that is in a 1942 dated holder so the canteen date would even be accurate, although I would have to get a WWI dated holder. The good thing about the new movie is all WWII gear is fair game for a possible "Indy" item now.

I wouldn't drink from a 65-year-old canteen, you don't know where that canteen's been.

Actually, I've drunk from my WW2 Soviet canteen. It was a unissued one though.

Water Bladder... Not the most appetizing name!

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but I always pictured Indy to have carried one of those Cowboy canteens... Like the ones that Clint Eastwood lugged around in his 'man with no name' movies...

Well, that's a pretty standard commercially available canteen....he'd probably carry something like that.

all this talk about BLADDERS  Sounds like a personal problem. But actually, when have we ever seen Indy drink from a canteen? He prefers a bottle.

Indy drinks out of plastic! Haha!

No, seriously now, THIS is what I've been after for the past few years. It's basically just a leather bag for water. It's at the beginning of the 5th element and the only other place I've seen this is The Return of the King.

Just so you can't say I made it up, here, have a look for yourselves.

Hm......seen 'em around a lot in Spain. But that's a little unreasonable to travel to Spain just for a water bladder.

I was about to express my undying thanks when I realized that a bota bag ain't what I'm looking for. Perhaps that screengrab ain't the best. I'll get a better one later.

A bota bag is shaped into tear-like shape and it retains that shape. What the hobbits are using (and Luke Perry is pouring from) is just a bag that drapes with the weight of the water.

What about something like this offering? The are not floppy, but still pretty close.

I always assumed the Sam's water bag was a bota. I think some bota bags are shaped like that. I did a quick search and came up with nothing, but I just searched one term and only looked at the first page of results.

Try this, it's a teardrop bota bag not a stomach shaped one:

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for but you can cut off the exterior and sew up your own leather bag to get it to look like it. Unless you can find a LOTR forum like this one where they make their own props and ask there.
