Hat proportions?!
As the fedora hat size goes down, does the hat's dimensions adjust overall? I wonder because I'm not the biggest guy on the planet (5'10", 165#), and wonder if the Indy fedora would make me look like I'm wearing a 10 gallon hat, so to speak. I assume it doesn't...just wondering.

Hats are generally proportioned to size, but that's not always the case. But say we wear the same hat size. I'm 5'4", and am built differently than you. But height isn't always the key. If my facial proportions are rounder and yours thinner, a wider brim and taller crown on the same hat may look good on me, but look huge on you, even though we share the same hat size. One of the things Fedora does is try to get an idea of what proportions will work best for you. If he sends a hat out and it doesn't look right on the wearer, he'll make his opinion known and recify it so you have a hat that does look good on you.
If there's a store near you that sells hats (even if they're not the best quality) try some on and take note of what crown height and brim width you think suits you. Try to take notes if you can. That'll give you some info you can use when looking for a good hat.

Jamie, have you worn any style of brimmed hat before? Bink is right, but it's also a matter of taste, and being used to it. I know many guys who were used to hats with lower crowns and/or short brims who were horrified by the Indy look on them until they got use to it. If you're really unsure and have no way to try on various hats (since hat shops are nearly impossible to find), but going custom is out of your price range (or patience range ), try the regular Akubra Federation. If you don't like the brim, it can be cut down by you or a hatter, or you could sell it here (fairly easily I would think). The Federation isn't very expensive, and it's great hat. The Camptown Fieldmaster is also a good option because it can be customized before it's shipped. I will cost more, but less than an AB beaver felt. By all accounts, the Camptowns are as good as the Akubras or better.
