Sweet hat! Is that this one here? http://www.hatsdirect.com/cgi/products. ... turnpage=0
For some reason the pic they show on their site the hat look lighter. I'm thinking about getting one of those as well to hold me over, how long did it take for you to get it?

Snipes, HatsDirect is the ony place you can get the Federation and Federation Deluxe. HatsDirect worked specifically woth COW in the creation of that hat. I remember when I ordered mine, I was surprised how quickl;y it got here. I believe it was inside of a week.Indiana Snipes wrote:Sweet hat! WOW! Sounds good, what's the difference between the Fed & the Deluxe? Other than the fact the Deluxe looks darker.binkmeisterRick wrote:Snipes, HatsDirect is the ony place you can get the Federation and Federation Deluxe. Well as long as you continue to offer good info you can pop up anytime! Thanks for the info!Chewbacca Jones wrote:Hi again, Snipes. Can't get rid of me, can you?
Actually, the Deluxe is lighter in color, and more of a true Indy brown. The felt is supposed to be a little better, but some complain about the slightly fuzzy finish. I prefer the standard Fed.

I've tried a fed deluxe, and saw absolutely no difference whatsoever between it and the standard.
The standard "mid-brown" ranges in color from really dark grayish brown, to super dark grayish brown. I REALLY like the "tawny fawn" color, which looks nothing like the really light color on the website catalog. It's a very dark tan...actually it could easily be called a light to medium brown. I think it would make a better Indy hat color than the mid-brown. So or not, I think it's just a more attractive color.
I'm waiting on my replacement size 57 Federation in tawny fawn. Hopefully it not only fits, but has better shaping than the one I sent back...

When you first posted the links to he hat, I said to myself, "oh look, another Akubra Federation sitting on a fence."
(I'm from the school of "unless it's on your head, there's no telling how good of of hat it really is!)
Then you posted the pic of you wearing it.
Personally, that hat never ceases to amaze me. With very little work, it is always a great looking hat on most people.
Great Job.

I measured my head as the suggested and I'm dead on 58 CMs and my fed was still a little big. I didn't like the foam strips they provide to put under the sweat band so I folded up some paper towel and now it fits great until it shrinks a bit.Erin Jones wrote:Seeing your pic makes me feel a lot better about my upcoming order.
I'm planning to order a Federation in the next month, how hard was it to bash? It looks great I hope mine comes out as well.
Also, how do the sizes tend to run? Larger, smaller?
I got my Fed in 6 days to Calif. I wish they would double box though as my box had a hole that looked like someone kicked it. Hat was not touch but sending something half way around the world they should pack it to make it, cause sending it back would be a pain. Bob

HANSOLOJONES Check out this pic from LC. Your hat and bash looks a lot like that hat! Not to mention the scale/proportions. Great job! I wouldn't change a thing. You know Michaelson is loving that hat! (He's a huge LC fedora fan!)

I'm of the opinion that everyone should support there vendors and buy at least one fedora from each the best. Akubra is still on that list. They make for good perid hats and for every studio and costume designer who is making period films should have Ron's number on Speed Dial.
You've got a great bash there, it would be a crime to do anything more.
