Ebay "Morgan" Whip Update
I received the mysterious Ebay Morgan whip today in the mail, the one that cause all of the debate in another thread I had started this week. Well, there is no way in the world this whip was made by David Morgan, Joe Strain or Ben Scott. As soon as I opened the box and saw the handle, I knew it wasn't a Morgan. The laces were cut too thin to sufficiently cover the handle, which resulted in a lot of gaps on the handle. I'm sure that DM would never send a whip out like that. There was also zero weight to the whip. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the handle was made of wood rather than a nail. Certainly there was no weighting in the knob. You can also see the string sticking out of the top of the knot. The whip also ends in an 8 plait point, and I'm pretty sure that DM always finishes his whips in a 6 plait point. At least every one I've ever seen in person ended in 6 plait.
On the upside, the taper is nice and the strands are very neatly cut and plaited in the thong. But again, I HIGHLY doubt this is a David Morgan whip.

I'm not really sure what to do at this point. The seller never stated in his Ebay ad that the whip was made by Morgan. WHen I asked the seller the question, he said that the person he bought it from told him it was a Morgan, but he didn't really know.Sergei wrote:Unbelievable! You paid top dollar too! I'll email you some pictures over the weekend, Walt, so you can get a good look at the details I mentioned in my last post.

That's too bad. Although I use eBay quite a bit it does have the ability to decieve you every once and a while. Last summer I got screwed out of $50 cause I didn't pay attention to a guy's feedback (figures the one time I didn't look). Ebay provides fraud insurance but only if they determine it to issue it at their discretion. Plus there's a $20 or $30 deductable (i forget which), so even if I had gotten a refund (which I didn't) I would have had to subtract the deductable. It stunk and I was throughly ticked about the whiole situation. I guess that is a chance you have to be willing to take though. One word of advise, always check out a seller prior to bidding. Again hope you get things squared away with the whip. For the amount you paid you shouldn't have to put up with anything less than a very high quality whip.
The Whip Almost Killed Me!
I decided to fix the shortcomings of this imitation Morgan whip that I got from Ebay. I figured I would re-plait the point, add a new fall, and cut off the heel knot and adequately weight it and put on a new knot. Well, while cutting the original knot off, the leather gave way unexpectedly and the razor went right into my wrist. It was bleeding and squirting! I just got home from the hospital after receiving stitches and a tetnaus shot. Great way to spend a Friday night!

Man same thing happend to me not to long ago on a friday night.Spent four hours int the emergancy room.I stabbed myself with a razor blade went in about an inch,it was a gusher too So I know how ya feel just take it easy cuz if ya dont yall end up getting it infected like I did & thats not fun.Oh yeah wich wrist mine was left ?Well anyways take care,Copper.
It was my left wrist and the cut was pretty deep. At first, the blood just poured out all over, and I put it under cold water and then put pressure on it with a paper towel. I took the pressure off after a few minutes and it started flowing again. So I put pressure back on it for a good 15 minutes after that. I took off the pressure again, and it started to leak a little but not too bad. Then I bent my hand back just a little bit and that was when blood just squirted out like a hose. At that point I realized for sure that it was time for a trip to the ER.
Right now it's very sore and it hurts all the way up into my fingers. They told me I can't do any weight lifting for at least a week(which will drive me nuts), and it looks like plaiting will be out of the question for a few days too. I just hope I didn't knick any tendons when I did it.

Man, thats just too much you have suffered there with that whip!
About getting money back from that kind of deal...
I do not know how it is there in USA and I am not familiar with Ebay but here in Finland we must be extra careful if we buy something without being sure what we buy especially from rummage sale or such places...
I mean, that guy told you
"I was told by other guy that this whip is Morgan but I do not know." clears him actually away from responsibility...or does it?
One rummage sale seller told me he never claims anything to be real thing if he dont certainly know it is BUT one of the tactics sellers use is to say:
"I do NOT know if it is real but I was TOLD it is, so my OPINION is it is..."
Afterwards if there comes an argue about it seller can say it was just his OPINION and he never CLAIMED product to be real...
Thats of course full of s**t but thats the way some sellers work.

GEEEZ JIM, DON'T KILL YOURSELF, WE NEED YA!!! Wow I just had my whip ya made for me outside, the second time in over a week, thanks to the rain!!! But I love it, I have had nothing better. I hope your hand recovers well. I have done stuff like that before as well working on other prop replicas, cut my fingers and hands a great deal, had to have stitches once myself working on a proton pack from Ghostbusters. You can imagine. Well anyways, I hope ya heal up quick! My Kind Regards!
I finished cutting the turkshead off of the knob today without inflicting anymore injury to myself. What was underneath of it was very strange, and I'm not really sure what it was made of. The knob was built up of some substance that I don't even know how to describe. At first it looked like a hollowed out, cone shaped piece of wood that I had to crack open with a hammer, and it was no easy task. After it came off, there was another smaller one under it that was even harder to crack. It looks like something that was probably soft and was molded into shape and then hardened. Very strange. I could see the nail at the bottom of the plaiting, and it's not the usual bridge spike used in the Indy whips. It's just a regular skinny nail. No lead weighting in it either, just string.
