Just to draw some fire away from the previous thread, I thought this topic deserves it's own thread

Personally, that looks almost like alligator hide... Not too sure if I'm a big fan of that bubbley texture, and at 200 pounds (especially considering how strong the pound is at the moment), that's a huge risk to take...
Maybe there are pictures of what a complete jacket looks like with this hide?

I actually like the color and the look of this hide. I also like the idea of a thicker lamb. I think seeing a complete jacket in this hide will tell many what they want to know. It's one thig to see a swatch (and a nice one it is) but another to see it in jacket form.
I, too, have always liked the 'thicker' lambskin of old. Unfortunately, with the loss of the original tannery that Peter used in those days, unless you find an old jacket, it's hard to describe.
This is a nice looking example. I, too, look forward to seeing an example jacket photo.
Good to have variety.
I think that the time when we will be supplying the skin too isn't far away.
I'm sure that if we explore the skin market, can find some really good stuff hey?
Not, that I am willing to do so, (no time) but maybe some of you would.
Just a note to KT Templar & Indy Jerry... Isn't this jacket actually a Raiders Authentic? Since the last worn-look lamb was a Raiders Authentic, but it seems is being replaced by this new leather...

BINGO! I've actually been talking to several people about this lately. My old Wested, for all it's inaccuracies, is far superior in leather quality than any of my spot on spec versions I've gotten since Peter switched over. The old leather was IT. Period. I still say prayers hoping it could be duplicated. Well, ok, I don't, but I still wish.

Nevermind me, Castor. KT I believe is the one who is bringing you this info from Peter, so I'd listen to what he says. KT, your correction post seems to have gone away...would you mind repeating yourself so it's clear what ...well, whatever it is Castor is asking about?
AFAIK, the "Worn Look Raiders Authentic" is an move to bring together a lot of the requests made by us fans over the years, to give a slimmer and slightly longer jacket with a worn look. It has no facings on the zipper, the rounded stormflap, and on the darker one: a silver zipper close to the bottom of the jacket. It is made in batches to standard sizing with no mods. I don't believe there is a REG or LONG version.
Most importantly it is cheaper, predominately this is intended for the more casual fans ordering over ebay etc... Peter is preparing for the coming spike in interest.
As for the colour, there have been 2 batches in the worn look and the specs have changed slightly between the 2. The first batch is the lighter warm golden colour, it has d rings. The second batch is in the darker leather, this has a sliver zipper and rectangular sliders, pocket flaps are slightly less pointy.
Those are testers, as Peter has stated above, he is looking at a third leather for his "Budget jacket". (My term).
The Veg Tanned Leather is a completely separate issue, it will be used as an option on normal made to order jackets, in the same way as there is the choice of all the other leathers on "made to order". It comes in small hides, so it will need more hides to make a jacket. On top of that is is more expensive per sq ft. All this makes it more expensive.
I, too, thank you. I was a bit confused about the 'goings on' myself on the authentic vs this leather. I also wasn't aware there was a second iteration in the mill in a darker leather. Looking forward to seeing an example of that one should photos become available anytime soon.

That's the darker version? I thought it was the lighter version after treatment of Pecards!
Hummm.. Hard to really tell, as one is an outside shot, and the other an inside shot. My jacket looks exactly the same in the different lighting conditions, and mine is the lighter version.
A shadow is being cast on the wall behind the individual, and a photo hanging there behind their right shoulder, so that's why it looks like an inside photo on my monitor.
I like it! Getting back to the one string made in gear care, an application of Pecards jell on the golden version might create this same look. Something to consider.
It is very very very annoying but the new delivery of pre washed and shrunk veg tanned lamb have turned out to be too small and inconsistant for manufacture as I had hoped. I am trying the same process in a buffalo hide in order to get the back panels out.
The Rola authentic jackets are now tweaked. anodised slidders, no inside facing, smaller silver zip to the bottom, eighties cut, smaller pocket, skulptured flap tapered sleeve reshaped collar rounded, temple length
All the Chris King and Platon and others specs built in now in work in Authentic (Seal) Brown and worn look Lambskin.
Thats it
Cheers
Peter
I can't understand how Todd has addressed the issue with the super open and droopy adventure pleats and peter hasn't. They adventure pleats look absoluely awful here, whereas Todd has hit it on the head.
Perhaps peter can address this too. It is the only thing I hate about my Wested and makes me consider a Todd, only because he nailed the pleat opening as in the following pic.
This look matches the opening sequences in Raiders where Indy is putting sand in his sandbag outside the cave opening.
I know some people will say that this wested is too big for this guy, however, my Wested is supposed to be hand made for me, but still has the awful droop. I see it a lot on other Westeds. If Peter is focusing on improving his jackets, then this is an area of real concern to me and needs reviewing.

Buffalo! Wow, now THAT'S a tough hide! Hope your machines can work that, my friend.
Looks like you're making good progress. Looking forward to seeing the final results!

Shame to see that lambskin fall by the wayside.
Looking forward to the new ROLAA. Will it be ready by the Summit?

It is no good showing a picture of a jacket that is too big on a man and then comparing to a picture of a man with his arms in the air whose action pleats are clearly not working as action pleats.
I can assure that remedies have been made but not by gluing so the action pleat is no longer effective.
Harrison Ford has a fairly square frame which filled the shoulder, we have reduced the shoulder line to allow for the more slopping shoulder and thereby tension the action pleat.
Send your jacket back to me and will adjust it.
Cheers
Peter
Please don't take this as criticism but merely an observation of something I see regularly.
I only hope to improve the jacket for others as you are attempting.
Please don't be offended.
I dont wish to send my jacket back....I have grown to live with it...but is there a way we can resolve this for my next jacket? Get myself measured properly or something?

How old is old? Ie. what year did the lambskin get thinner?

Pre mid 1980's. The original tannery closed.

You really are a fountain of knowledge. I bought my Wested maybe 5 years ago. I guess I was hoping this is what you meant by older.
Appreciate the info.

Thanks for the link to that post Dumas-that seals the deal for me....I've GOT to get me one of those!
I've been SO out of the loop and I'm struggling to catch up, but Peter....VERY good work on that LC jacket revamp. The new collar stand and storm flap configuration are perfect! I love the double stitching, too!
Excellent stuff!!! The forum has, indeed, been busy in my absence!
