AB brim measurements vs IndyGear "Raiders" measure

Post by Alaska Smith »

The measurements of the brim on by (beautiful) AB are slightly larger than the ones given for the Raiders fedora on the Indy Gear site. This seems to make for a slightly bigger brim than what one might get from following the IndyGear measurements. Am I wrong about this? And, if I am right, why the discrepancy?

I'd just venture a guess and say that that's because each AB is shaped to fit the wearer's face size, as opposed to Harrison Ford's face? So a wider face would have a wider brim, and a narrow face would have a narrower brim?

He'll make it as wide as you want it. On my pending AB, I told him to make the brim 2 7/8" all the way around. I can cut it later if I wish. Brim width is a very personal thing. What looks good on one guy, looks terrible on another.

I recommend 2-1/2" or 2-5/8" brim widths, and 2-3/4' or 2-7/8" front & back. It depends on your face shape, but a hat with too wide a brim doesn't look like Indy's and defeats the point.

You're right. It is my face shape that causes the hat to look slightly larger. And the measurements aren't really off. Went to the local hat store this afternoon and tried on the Stetson Temple (which, I think, is about 1/4 of an inch shorter on the sides) and that looked AWFUL. I like my AB the way it is after all.

Glad to see you're happy with what you already have. That's the most important thing anyway, to be happy with hat. BTW, what are your current brim dimensions, if I may ask?
