It's 3 different jackets (and prices) if You ask me.

Is that too much to ask, IndyK?

Rabbit, IndyK makes a good point. Do some thinking as to what you really want in a jacket and what your budget is. Besides, there's no saying that you have to get everything all at once. Heck, I've been here for a good long while and I still don't have everything. But I'm content (for the most) to have some of the basics.

I'd add 'U.S. WIngs' to number 2 as well if you're talking about it being 'bomb proof'.

And still, what you consider the breakdown to be, G, could well be different for other gearheads. Rabbit, just be patient and do a lot of reading through the jacket section. I think it'll help.

actually, i'm in the market again for an ultimate SA jacket and have found the following:

1. flightsuits won't do any mods whatsoever
2. i don't have a mechanism for wested to do a full check off of my specs in the end

i might call todd up again to see if he can find me some really grainy hide thats thicker than the lamb i have now....some really wierd stuff.....maybe in a nice bright ORANGE so that i can send daily pictures of me wearing it to aries cannon

I guess I look at quality/durability first. I want it to outlast me!

Second, I look at what everyone else has said to make a better judgment on what to get. After all, folks that have bought them all should know!

Third, I look at SA. IS it Indy's Jacket, or close?

Fourth, I look at the original maker. Wested made the original, so I'm bound to check them out first. However, from what everyone has said on here about the fedoras, AB's are built better. So, instead of going with HB, I decided to go AB!

That's it in a nutshell. I don't tend to look at the price, unless its super super ridiculous. Quality beats price hands down for me.

I guess I was looking for a jacket that wouldn't keep me "warm" per say, but something I could wear for ruggedness out in the woods even when it's a tad warm out, but still look classy enough for people not to say, "look at that bum!". Quality is #1 on my list, then SA.

Well, SR, NOW you should understand why folks are scattered ALL over radar on this. I can't think of one single jacket that will fulfill all your points you list as 'wants'.

Each jacket covers many 'wants', but not all. You need to pare down your list to, say, the top three most important points, then see what you get.

Of all your points, the closest one I can think that would come to your requirements would be Gibson & Barnes (Flightsuits), in my opinion.

I am totally impressed with Todds jacket too, but there are only about 20 of them in existance, and they haven't been around long enough for any data to be considered regarding durability or longevity. All the others have.

I guess this is exactly why AB came into existence, and other vendors who ventured on their own to make their own various gear, because they couldn't find "THE" one they had in mind.

I'm still a student in grad school, with limited time on my hands. But......I'll keep reading these posts like all of you recommended, and who knows...

Perhaps I'll see one of yours for sale at just the right price, and I'll bite!

Anyone have the "Vintage Kangaroo Version" of US Wings jacket? If the whips are made of kangaroo because of their durability, wouldn't that make the best leather for a jacket? Anyone with pics?

Hey, do US Wings jackets "wear big"? I normally wear a 42R, but Indy jackets aren't supposed to be roomy, right?

In smaller sizes, 'run big' is an understatement. I usually wear a 38 the XS is about right for me. For a 42 I'd recommend a S in a US Wings.

What you can to to check is give them a call and get them to give you some measurements taken off an actual jacket. For chest size get then to measure it armpit to armpit across the chest of the jacket. This gives you half of the chest size. For a 42 you need a measurement of about 22 1/2 to 23 (giving 3-4 inches of movement room).

Whilst you're at it get them to measure the back length and the sleeve from shoulder to cuff to see if they fit you right.

Measure your own chest to see what your 'true' size is then add 4 to work out what "pit to pit" measure you need. (ie if you measure 40, add 4 gives 44. The pit to pit you need then is 22).

If you have big arms or big stomach, please factor that in and ask them. Beware that Wings often over estimate the size you need. They recommended me a Medium from my measurements!

I'm a normal frame, starting to get "in shape" after having just finished finals and all. I'll have my GF measure me to make sure before I settle on jacket size and company to go with, unless I end up purchasing a jacket from one of you gear heads.
