Hmmm Us Wings and Wested...

Post by rebelgtp »

Well here are pics of my US Wings goat next to my Wested horse. I have to say even though the two jackets are based off the same jacket there are some major differences. I love both jackets, however both have little quirks about them. I really hope Wested offers the goat as an option again as I would love to get a goat from them. One of the biggest things that bugged me about the US Wings was the batting in it, so as others have done I split a seem in the lining and tore it all out. The jacket drapes allot better now and in general I like the fit much better.

I've no idea, but I'm guessing... 'The Thing'?

I like the way the Wested looks better... the pocket flaps don't overwhelm the pocket, the zipper without the leather on it, and the collar. Though the Wings does have better looking sleeves and pocket stitching.
Btw, what's batting?

I think the Wings jacket looks better pocket wise. While I don't like the lack of scalloping, I much prefer the flap size. Wested's pocket flaps (in those photos) look weak.

I was about to say the same, They look very weird , the pocket flaps look to small for the long pockets.

I would say that they both look great. I have wanted a Indy jacket in HH for along time now. As for your other question about the other jacket, is it "National Treasure"?

It's a thin isulation that's placed between the leather and the lining that adds a bit of warmth to the jacket. If you'll recall, leather jacket with NO insulation provide no real protection from the cold...just wind resistance. With the added batting, it gives that needed insulation and makes it a true cooler weather jacket.

you know until i put the two jackets side by side i had never really noticed how small the flaps on the wested really were  . the heavier hide of the wested makes it a great for cooler weather. the us wings has become my kind of daily jacket, i can wear it comfortably to almost 80 degrees. i have also been caught in a massive down pour in that one.

good guesses on the other jacket and hat combo. i'll let it go a bit longer before i say what movie they are from. funny thing is i bought that coat because i needed one for a trip, found that one realized it was from a movie i liked and got it. killed two birds with one stone.

and we have a winner! :D

the coat is a canada goose expedition, all it needs is the nsf patch on the sleeve and the larger silver reflector on the back. the hat like it says on the front is from analog, leather front mesh back. however the one in the movie appeared to have blue lettering but i've never found one with blue lettering.

I have read several people here wearing their jackets in the summer heat. Either you just love to roast, or its something else, I just can't understand this at all. :-k :-s

But hey, nice jackets. It looks as though Wested is very consistent with the HH, they all pretty much look like yours, same grain and color.

It's part of a new weight loss program. Sweat off the weight and look good while doing it.

well in my case normally when it hits that hot the jacket is long gone. however i normally will wear it into work even on hot days to make sure i have it for the evening. nothing like going into work and its dry hot and almost 90 and when you leave its in the low 60s high 50s windy and pouring down rain. .

kinda like right now this whole last week including today its been in the 80 and peaking into the 90's, tomorrow is suppose to be in the 60's for the high.

but like i aid with the batting out of the goat skin jacket it really is much more flexible in the conditions you can wear it in.

Yeah, they are ok down to about 5°C with a little bit of layering. Less than that and for any length of time then no. There is no insulation!

Hi Michaelson,

Is it the case that leather jackets in general aren't good against cold?

Without insulation, that's correct. They're the best for wind resistance (that's one reason why they were so popular with open cockpit biplanes), but have no insulating properties.

It must be one of those "mediums" that you have room for both the sheep and you eh, Bink? Just make sure you ask the poor sheep for permission.

I know Michaelson will give you an honest answer, but if you asked the general public, not only is it comfy in summer heat, it also is great during outings in sub freezing weather('cause Indy did it). Alot of this is in the mind of the wearer and what your personal limits are with hot and cold. My range wearing this particular garment is about 32-35F to 70F. Anything hotter or colder than that for more than a half hour or so exposure and I switch to something else.

Indy is a fictional character. He could wear a fur lined parka with a sweater in Death Valley if he wanted to, or swim trunks to the Artic, and be fresh as a daisy.

I wouldn't recommend it to a real live person, though.

Oh, the horse and the sheep are quite married. Have been for decades. I'd hate to break up that relationship. This jacket was made back in the days when medium was medium!

Well, true, but HF is a real person. I have been to Cairo, Tunisia, Petra, and Kuai, and I have no idea how he managed it. Makes me ooze just to remember all that heat. I tried wearing my Wested last Saturday to my son's ball game at 8 am. The temp hit 70, and I couldn't keep my jacket on in the sun.

True, and Ford has been quoted in saying anyone who thought of putting a leather jacket on his character in the jungle and desert should be shot too.

Speaking of which, National Treasure II is coming out on December 21st. Wonder if he'll still have HIS jacket?
