Applying Pecard's
I want to put Pecard's on my leather jacket, but the instructions are a little vague. Do you just rub it in with a cloth towel? Then I guess you rub off the excess. Is that how you guys do it? Thanks...KC

Personally, I use a cloth towel if I'm working with Pecards lotion, and I use my bare hands if I'm working with Pecards classic/standard dressing (since it's more of a balm than a liquid).
The lotion's for lamb, the dressing is for cow/horsehide. Also, there is the cream for cow/horsehide which I haven't tried, but supposed to soften up the leather.
With the lotion, the lamb pretty much absorbs everything under a minute. But the dressing leaves a tacky finish, so you should use that sparingly, leave it up to hang overnight, and then buff off the excess.
Hope this helps!

Thin layers are the key word KC. Just apply a really thin coat (be carefull not to add anything to the liner - cotton doesn't like Pecard's). Then hang it up to dry over night. If necesarry, apply another coat and let dry - to rub off the excess, can be a real mess.
Just personal preference, but has worked fine for several years.

Marc

and for Goat? I bought the normal leather dressing a few months ago but havent applied it to my goatskin jacket yet - though I think with goat people have used either one.Castor Dioscuri wrote: The lotion's for lamb, the dressing is for cow/horsehide. How much Pecards lotion do you guys use?! I put like a quarter sized amount on a cloth and rub it in and its gone, and do that a couple times. You guys sound like you pour it all over the jacket and rub it in...
How much do you use, and how exactly do you apply it? Onto the jacket, or onto the cloth?
In Christ,
Shane

I tend to use my fingers and only use a cloth the next day to wipe off any excess. I think a little goes a long way if you can work it in, but it also depends on the jacket. My Wested has been regularly treated since I got it, so I don't have to use a huge amount of Pecards when I dress it. But I recently got a vintage horsehide jacket which was plenty dry and I ended up using the rest of the container on it! That jacket just stunk in the Pecards!IndyMcFly wrote:How much Pecards lotion do you guys use?! I put like a quarter sized amount on a cloth and rub it in and its gone, and do that a couple times. i fill my bathtub up with pecards and bathe in it. then i dry myself off with my leather jackets
actually, i don't use pecards except on my whip...that way i can buy a new jacket if it wears out....which would be in a couple years or so. too many options on the market to take care of a jacket in that nature IMO.

How often would a normal person apply Pecards to a jacket? I'm not sure anyone here's qualified to answer that.
