I recently had a customer who purchased a set of my tutorial DVD's get in touch with me to let me know he had found a place in the US that sold #12 lead shot. I know this can be hard to get hold of so for the US whip makers on the list here is a link to the site.

Thanks for posting this! Someone had given me the link a few months back, and I couldn't find it again.

It is very hard to find #12 shot here in the states, I don't really know why, but it is. The little bit of #12 I have left right now is from a big bag of it I bought second hand a couple years ago.

I just ordered some more,

Your welcome Paul. It's not all that easy to get over here either. I know we used to be able to buy 22 caliber shells filled with #12 shot to shoot rats back when I was a kid,( long time ago) To get a decent price for mine I ended up buying 660lbs of the stuff directly from the manufacturer. I've got enough on hand now to pass it down to my grand kids and their grand kids. I can just see them in 2090 sitting around asking what the #### this silly old man was thinking of doing with all this birdshot

Since I don't make whips, would one of you explain to me what this does for whips exactly? Does it go in the butt of the handle or evenly in the handle and how much do you put in and is it like a bb or powder or what and how do you secure it so that it doesnt move all around inside?

It is put into a bag inside the whip along with the handle of the whip. That places it in the first part of the belly of the the whip at the end of the handle. Not much is used about one and a half to two ounces but this helps keep the whip on track especially with shorter whips like signal whips, they have quit a bit more shot in them than you would put in an 8ft bull whip.
