I'm back!
Not sure how many of you remember me, or if many of you "old timers" are still around, but I'm back, out of school, and back to making money...so, that means it's time to get me a Wested!
I already have a cotton Wested, but it's time to get a leather one I suspect. Now, I have been reading though a lot of posts on here, but I would like to touch base with you guys and see what has changed in the jacket since I was here last.
So my question is (and I realize everyone has a different opinion), what are the current agreed upon standards for the Wested Raiders and LC jackets? Meaning, what are most of you ordering in terms of leather, style, cut, etc.
I'll be expanding this topic as I get closer to ordering one (in about two weeks) to I appreciate all your help!!
Good to be back!
Jeff

CLM, i ran into you on the street last year....i was wondering why i didn't see you more often. great to have you back.
the authentic leather is lamb for a wested if you want what the movies had. the style i've seen is mostly raiders as i have not seen too many posts with the LC collar and snaps on the storm flap. most people are requesting the 80's cut which puts the yoke in the correct place i believe....but recent posts have lead me to believe that the raiders jacket chest was not of the 80's cut pattern.....i've seen the expo look closer to the raiders temple jacket than any wested 80's cut jacket. my .02. take it for what its worth

Hey All!
Indy G,
ya it was cool to run into you Sable was just talking about you the other day. You don't see me much cause I'm not at school anymore. We should get in touch with each other and Sable, I want to see if we can pull all our resources together and get a private showing of indy 4.
What leather is your Wested, and how do you find it holds up for you in our crazy Canadian climate? My cotton Wested is a mix of Raiders and LC from what I remember, and there are a few things I am thinking I might get on my Wested, such as inside zipper, and I MAY get the side pockets sewn shut so it keeps it's shape.
Indy Jerry,
thanks! Good to be back! You may be joking, but I'll never forget last year when Bink got it in his head to mail me his sunburn peels...trust me, after that...you'll regret you even joked about that.
Bink,
Any reasons?
Canyon,
Yep, getting one ASAP...once I figure out what to get. Nice to see ya again!
I suppose I could ask this in a better way by breaking this down into sections.
Leather
Cut (length, 80's, etc)
Tweaks
Lets start with Leather.
I live in Canada, and as you know we can have some pretty cold weather, and some pretty warm weather too. What leather would you suggest for cold fall mornings, yet breathable enough to wear on a cool summer day if needed?
Which leather looks (screen accurate, and quality wise) and feels the nicest in your opinion?
Are there any limits I should be aware of, such as out of stock leathers, special care, or not appropriate for cold/rain/snow.
Lets get the leather out of the way, then go onto the next section. Thanks again for all your help!

Well, apart from not weathering well, you have to shave a Jerry-skin jacket every week. Trust me, it's not a pretty sight.crazylegsmurphy wrote: Bink,

As to the goatskin, it's a tough hide made to handle abuse and wear. It also has natural water repellant properties. I wear mine in the autumn, winter (layered) and spring, and on especially cool summer days I've been known to sport it, too. I like how it feels. Mine is broken in nicely and I have every reason to believe it'll last me for a long, long time.

Bink, this may have happened whilst you were busy. The goatskin has been discontinued at Wested.binkmeisterRick wrote:Well, apart from not weathering well, you have to shave a Jerry-skin jacket every week. Trust me, it's not a pretty sight.crazylegsmurphy wrote: Bink,

crazy legs....i own a lamb and a goat wested. the goat was by far the better hide both for durability and for warmth in our canuck climate. i had satin lining put in the goat for the extra heat retention as well. it was a great winter jacket....but it needed an overcoat once you get down below -10 deg c or so. like KT said, goat is no longer available at wested unfortunately. i'm hoping orb could chime in here with what he thinks his horsehide can do in cold weather or perhaps someone who owns the cowhide. with the lamb, you'll need an overcoat around nov-dec through feb-march. she's just too thin for that kind of weather. also remember that with an 80's cut jacket, if you give them your actual suit jacket size, it won't leave much room for bundling layers underneath.
i see you're not going the screen accurate route (SA) so wested should be able to get you what you need.
cheers
